Jamaica canter to seven-wicket win over Leewards in women's T20 tourney

Hosts Jamaica remain perfect in the Cricket West Indies Regional Women's Twenty20 championship after cantering to a seven-wicket victory over Leeward Islands in the third-round game at Kensington Park yesterday.

Off-spinner Vanessa Watts was the star for the Jamaicans, capturing 5-9 to help dismiss the Leewards for 68.

Jamaica's vice-captain Chadean Nation hit 28 not out to guide her team to a straightforward victory.

Scores: Leeward Islands 68 (20 overs); Jamaica 70-3 (12 overs).

“I think it was a good performance, the ladies played to the best of their abilities,” Watts said during a post-game interview.

“I'm glad I chipped in and was successful. I think they didn't play me well because they mostly tried to play across the line, so I tried to bowl as full as I could and as straight as possible,” she added.

Shawnisha Hector, captain of the Leeward Islands, said her team's third consecutive loss was “devastating”.
