Ganga: A Position of Strength
West Indies opener Daren Ganga fielded questions from the media after the fourth day of the second Test match between the West Indies and Pakistan in Multan.Following are excerpts from his comments...
On how the game is poised going into the final day:
The ball has moved around a lot more in the morning session and I think it's another 20 overs or so before we can have another new ball. The main objective would be to come tomorrow in that first session and push hard to get wickets and hopefully put pressure on Pakistan and if we can bowl them out and chase whatever is left to win the game.
On how confident the team is of a win:
We are very confident, we are in a position where we can put pressure on Pakistan. (Mohammad) Yousuf and (Imran) Farhat played well this afternoon so we know it’s not going to be an easy job but we appreciate that we are in a position of strength in this Test match and we're coming tomorrow to play a hard 90 overs in order to try and force a win to level the series.
On whether the win is highly probable as opposed to a draw:
It's either a win or it's going to be a draw but I think given the state of the track it's going to be a day older tomorrow and the morning session is going to determine how the game is going to pan out at the end of the day. A lot of wickets have fallen on the first session of every day so we’d be coming very optimistic hoping to get an early breakthrough and get into the Pakistani batting so that we can try and set up a win in this Test match.
On missing out on a hundred:
Obviously it's disappointing, I haven’'t scored a Test hundred away from the Caribbean and that was on my mind. I hadn't had much practice (coming into the series), my last game was the Stanford 2020 final so I was very keen on spending a lot of time out in the middle and making sure that I get myself back into good nick.
We batted well as a team and we were able to put pressure on Pakistan on a track that they didn’t capitalize on in the first innings.
