Bennett King has lost a key member of his coaching staff.Strength and conditioning coach Bryce Cavanagh, an Australian hired by the West Indies Cricket Board in April 2005, has resigned following the Test series against Pakistan. Cavanagh's two-year contract was close to expiring but there is no word yet on reasons for his sudden, premature exit.
The WICB decided against a replacement for the five-match ODI series.
Assistant Coach David Moore will fill in as strength and conditioning coach in the interim. The WICB plans to advertise the post shortly.
Cavanagh, one of four Australians in the WICB's team operations unit, was hired to control of fitness level tests and required standards for players at first class and international level.
As Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, he was expected to identify qualified strength and conditioning trainers across the region and in consultation with these WICB approved trainers, establish fitness level tests and required standards for players at first class and international level.
He was tasked with producing strength and conditioning trainers in the Caribbean to carry on the necessary programmes at all levels and required to produce fitness programmes for players in West Indies teams designed to create a well rounded athlete in the areas of strength and conditioning, coordination, speed, agility, power and balance.
As part of his job description, Cavanagh was also expected to liaise with the WICB's Medical Panel and the West Indies Team Physiotherapist to ensure there is a co-ordinated and planned approach to the medical services provided to, and fitness preparation of, the players for West Indies teams.
