Four Newcomers in B'dos Squads
The Barbados cricket selectors have named two separate squads to prepare for the opening round of matches in the 2007 regional first class season.According to a CMC Sports report, Barbados chief selector Joel Garner announced a 15-man squad for the Carib Beer four-day match against Trinidad and Tobago on January 4-7. He also named 16 players for the one-day match against the same opponents on January 9.
Garner said the two teams were named to keep the players in full preparation for the tournaments and closer to the date of the matches, each team would be narrowed down to 14 players.
No captain was named, but all-rounder Ryan Hinds is expected to retain the job.
There are two newcomers in the four-day team and both are dazzling batting all-rounders - Kevin Stoute, a 21-year-old former youth national who has been prolific in the recent trials, and Ryan Wiggins, a 22-year-old stroke-maker and clever off-spinner.
West Indies left-arm seamer Ian Bradshaw has been omitted from the four-day team, but will spearhead the bowling in the one-day team.
Both Stoute and Wiggins are also in the one-day team as well as West Indies Under-19 players, Shamarh Brooks, Javon Searles and Kemar Roach.
