Deonarine cleared of rape allegations

Rape allegations against Guyanese batsman Narsingh Deonarine have been dismissed.

According to reports, the 23-year-old left-hander has been told he faces no further action in a case that involved a 16-year-old girl in England.

Following his arrest on June 3, Deonarine was bailed to appear at Workington police station. The report said the police interviewed him but brought no charges against him.

Yesterday, Deonarine answered bail and afterwards, the police confirmed that their investigation into the matter had been finalised.

"We can confirm that investigations into an allegation of rape in Millom on the weekend of June 3, have been completed. A file has been forwarded to the CPS for consultation. As a result of those consultations there will be no further action taken by Cumbria police," a police spokesman said.
