Powell to Hampshire; Ravi to Glamorgan?

Hampshire have beaten Glamorgan to the signing of West Indies pacer Daren Powell as a replacement for Stuart Clark.

Glamorgan were keen to sign Powell but Hampshire are understood to have offered a more lucrative package, according to reports out of the U.K. After losing out on Powell, Glamorgan is now talking to Trinidad & Tobago quick Ravi Rampaul and is "hopeful" of signing him.

Earlier this week Adrian Shaw, the Glamorgan coach, said: "We wanted someone playing here already and the West Indies squad was the first port of call.

He's slightly slower than Fidel Edwards but still bowls at around 85 miles an hour and has got a much more solid action.

"He looks as though he'll stay fit and play a lot of cricket. He's a strong lad and a much improved bowler."

Powell, 29, has played 22 Tests and 28 one-day internationals. He took nine Test wickets at 48.55 against England earlier this summer and was outstanding in the three one-day internationals, taking six wickets at 21.83.

He is expected to make his debut in Hampshire's next Championship match at Durham in nine days' time and his spell will include the Friends Provident Trophy final against the same opponents on August 18.
