WICB: President acted in 'best interests'

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has accepted the resignation of chief executive Bruce Aanensen.

In a statement following a board meeting in Barbados today, the WICB said that after discussion and review, it was "satisfied that the President has acted in the best interests of West Indies cricket at this time."

The Board recognises that the reasons given by Mr. Aanensen for his resignation relate to very complex and challenging matters with which it will continue to be engaged," it added.

In his resignation letter, Aanensen criticised several decisions by new president Julian Hunte, including a directive to disburse payments to the team that participated in the 2007 World Cup.

The WICB plans to advertise for a new CEO immediately. In the interim, CFO Barry Thomas is expected to act as chief executive.
