Lennox John out as Windwards boss

Dominica's Emmanuel Nanthan is the new president of the Windward Islands Cricket Board.

Nanthan, the former vice-president of the organization, got the elevation to the top post after long-serving president Lennox John of St. Vincent made a last-minute decision not to contest another term, according to a CMC report.

"I had indicated to the members that the 2005 elections would have been my last and even though I was asked to run again and had given it some thought, it was just not my way to be at the centre of my own re-election."

The word is that John will stay on as Chief Executive Officer of the Board and will continue to manage the office in St Vincent.

John's departure brings to an end a career in cricket administration, which spanned four decades.

Nanthan, the president of the Dominica Cricket Association, was John's 'seconder' at the previous AGM when he defeated the late Kenny Hobson for that post. In gaining the presidency, Nanthan became only the third head of Windwards cricket in the over 30 years.

He follows in the footstep of St. Lucia's Julian Hunte who served for over 20 years and John who served for just over 10 years.

Vincentian Elson Crick was elected first vice-president at the meeting, which was attended by delegates from Dominica, Grenada, S. Lucia and host country SVG.

The secretary and treasurer positions will be filled through appointments of the president.
