Chanderpaul withdraws from Stanford 20/20

Guyana, winners of the inaugural Stanford 20/20 regional cricket title, will start this year's tournament against Bermuda on Sunday without Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

The left-hander made himself unavailable after being named in Guyana's 13-man squad but chief selector Claude Raphael is still hopeful that Chanderpaul will participate if Guyana wins on Sunday.

The Guyana squad, minus Chanderpaul and Sewnarine Chattergoon (both with the West Indies team in South Africa) is considered one of the pre-tournament favorites.Raphael said that while Chattergoon is expected home this week, Chanderpaul contacted the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) on Monday to confirm his unavailability for Sunday's opening game in Antigua.

"Shiv contacted us to say he has a Sinus problem and will not be available for the first game since he will be going to the USA (where he now resides) for medical attention. It is hoped that once the problem is not serious he will be back for Guyana's second game, scheduled for February 17th (once Guyana beat Bermuda)," Raphael said.
