Lawson gets Leicestershire (Kolpak) deal

Jamaica fast bowler Jermaine Lawson has inked a deal to play for Leistershire this summer.

The 26-year-old paceman, who has faced scrutiny over his controversial bowling action, has been signed a Kolpak player, where as "a citizen of a country with an associate agreement" with the European Union he has the same rights as a European worker and does not count as an overseas player.

Lawson joins Wavell Hinds and Pedro Collins as Kolpak playerson the English County circuit.

In 13 Tests for the West Indies, Lawson has picked up 51 wickets, including a best bowling haul of 7 for 78 against Australia.

However, he was reported to the ICC for having an illegal bowling action immediately after that game. He has since been cleared by the ICC but observers say there has been no real improvement in his action.

According to BBC Radio, Leistershire head coach Tim Boon is unconcerned about the pelting questions surrounding Lawson.
