An inexperienced West Indies top order built a platform for a substantial first-innings score on a track that promised plenty of runs and just as much discouragement for bowlers, who will have to toil hard for any rewards. Darren Sammy had opted to bat without hesitation in conditions far friendlier for batting than what Chittagong had to offer during the first Test. Though the absence of Lendl Simmons at the top of the order due to a back injury would have been a worry, his replacement, Kieran Powell, Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk Edwards batted solidly for the most part though not without some jitters.
