The real purpose of the DRS

When I was a boy, in the days when cricket was a gentleman's game, at every level of the game, one of two umpires gave batsmen out or not out, rightly or wrongfully, and that was that.

When I was a boy, at every level of the game, there was no questioning the umpires. It was, simply, not cricket.

And when I was a boy also, a batsman, for example, was ruled out, or not out, by the same method, by one of the two umpires, wherever he played, be it in England, in Australia, in India, or in the West Indies.

Today, however, after so many years, things have changed. Today, players are told they can question the umpire who passes on the players' queries to a third umpire except in India where the use of technology is not accepted, or in other places where the use of the technology is too expensive.
