Tallawah overpower Hawksbills

Led by match-winning performances from all-rounder André Russell and fast bowler Vernon Philander, Jamaica Tallawahs yesterday recorded their first victory of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL), following a seven-wicket win over Antigua Hawksbills at Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The hard-hitting Russell scored an unbeaten 42 off 23 balls to guide the Tallawahs to 120 for three off 16.5 overs after the Hawksbills were restricted to 111 for seven off their allotment of 20 overs.

Russell, who entered the fray with Jamaica in a delicate position at 51 for three off 10.2 overs, took matters into his own hands by hitting three sixes and four fours for an outstanding strike rate of 182.6.
