WI U-19s bats flop against spin
PROVIDENCE, Guyana – An inexplicable batting collapse, triggered by spin bowling and featuring a hat-trick for leg-spinner Jubair Hossain, undermined West Indies Under-19s, sending them crashing to a 198-run defeat in the third Youth One-day International against Bangladesh Under-19s on Friday here.
The Windies Under-19s, replying to the Bangladeshis’ 286 for eight, were bowled out for 88 in 18.3 overs under the lights at the Guyana National Stadium.
None of the home team’s batsmen reached 20, as the last six wickets crumbled for four runs in the space of 13 deliveries.
Jeremy Solozano and Shimron Hetmyer led the way with 17, but Jubair ended with the flattering figures of 3-7 from two overs, claiming the scalps of Jofra Archer, Jerome Jones and Bryan Charles – all for ducks – as the Bangladesh spinners bamboozled the West Indies Under-19s’ batting.
