Chris Gayle to be replaced by Kenar Lewis for NAGICO Super50

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Jamaica will be without captain and opening batsman Chris Gayle for the upcoming NAGICO Super50 Tournament. Gayle was injured during the West Indies tour of India late last year and has not recovered in time to participate in the upcoming 50-over event.

The Jamaica Cricket Association confirmed the change on Friday.

Experienced allrounder David Bernard will now lead the team. Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller is the new vice captain. Kenar Lewis, a strongly-built right-handed top-order batsman will replace Gayle in the 14-member squad. He made his nation debut in the 2011 WICB Regional Super50 tournament and also played in the WICB Caribbean T20 competition two years ago.

The NAGICO Super50 tournament will run from January 30 to February 15 and will be broadcast live on ESPN and on Caribbean Super Station radio. Matches at Queen’s Park Oval will be day/night fixtures while matches at Shaw Park, Tobago will be day games.
