ICC to trial umpire communications during Aus-SA ODIs
New Delhi: Cricket's governing body has confirmed that the upcoming ODI series in Australia will trial the airing of umpires' discussions live by wiring them for sound. In a statement released Wednesday, the ICC said that communication between the on-field umpire as and the TV umpire during the Australia v South Africa series starting November 14 will be available to the host broadcaster, the Nine Network, to put on air.
"For years viewers have enjoyed seeing the same pictures as the TV umpire and making their own decisions during a referral or review. Now they will be even closer to the game, hearing what the umpire is saying when making those decisions," said Geoff Allardice, the ICC general manager.
