Peters maiden ton helps Leewards rally

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Orlando Peters carved out his maiden first class hundred and Liam Sebastien, his first ever ten-wicket haul, as Leeward Islands Hurricanes put up an admirable fight on day three of their third round WICB Professional Cricket League clash here Sunday.

Resuming from their overnight 102 for one, the Leewards kept Windward Islands Volcanoes in the field all day at the National Stadium here, before being dismissed late in the day for 334.

The Windwards require 136 for victory on Monday’s final day.

Stern test for Red Force batsmen

Batting has been their bugbear this season and today T&T Red Force batsmen will look to put that to rest with a meaningful display against Jamaica on the fourth and final day of their WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) clash at the Queen’s Park Oval.

After their bowlers restricted Jamaica to 196, the batsmen were set a victory target off 239 runs. Left to negotiate 11 overs, T&T closed on 24 for one. When play resumes today at 9.30am, they will need another 215 runs from 90 overs. The lone casualty was left hander Evin Lewis who was caught at bat/pad for 10.

Permaul damages Barbados Pride with career- best figures

INDEBTED to Veerasammy Permaul’s career-best bowling figures, host Guyana Jaguars were large and in charge at the end of the penultimate day of their West Indies Cricket Board/Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day third round clash against Barbados Pride at the Guyana National Stadium, yesterday. Resuming on their overnight 33 for 2, with Shai Hope and Jonathan Carter at the wicket, the Barbadians struggled against the spin of Permaul who took 8 for 26 and were bowled out for 101, with Dwayne Smith’s 32 leading the way.

Asked to follow-on just before the lunch break, Barbados, through the efforts of former skipper Ryan Hinds and wicketkeeper/batsman Shane Dowrich, fought back to be 214 for 7 at the close of play, with Hinds being unbeaten on 60 while Dowrich contributed an even 50.
