No Horse In This Race
And if the people would only listen, while they still danced.
Be that as they will not, last afternoon, I was busy having my little chicken-wings-n'-Dirty-Bastard-ale, when a Fortis comrade called.
"Yu tek bush, man?" he enquired. I quickly reminded him, that I had already 'spoken' earlier in the day. And like Desiderata, I try to speak only once - and clearly.
Be that as I try, and as if my ale wasn't strong enough, the said comrade tried to pick-up my spirits. "Bway, if dem did only listen tu yu," referring to my posit on March 26, 2013, where I waged a one-man campaign to get The Ayatollah on the ballot, to challenge Fortis Dave Cameron for the WICB presidency.
I don't have any grandchildren (as of yet). But I'm saving all my public one-man-band pronouncements, for them. Hopefully, they will say, "but he told you all so."
And while I'm at it, might I thank the likes of Fortis HG Helps, Keith Holder, Sean Mitchell and Ryan Naraine, for carrying my message(s) from the frozen wilderness?
Be that as I hope I'm permitted to do, I agree with Orville Higgins, in his posit in this morning's Jamaica Gleaner when he writes, "What's happening off the field (in West Indies cricket), is so much more exciting". Others might say that all this is sad. And others might say, "let the people speak". All this, is healthy debate. I just hope that at the end of the day, we'll get it right.
To me, it's a little sad. Because here we are, on the cusp of the grandest cricket tournament of them all. And here we are, subsumed in 'cas-cas', and not discussing how well we will do, or will not do, in the parade. We are still busy re-arranging furniture. But as the Missis is fond of saying, "Is not every drum-pan that knocks, one can dance to". Sometimes, one has to stay home, and try to get one's house, in-order.
Be that as we sometimes have to, I have no horse in the upcoming March 7th race for WICB president. Whether it be Dave Cameron or Joel Garner. May the better man win.
According to the Little Village Lawyer - and rightfully so - Mr. Garner has not yet signalled what he's all about. He has not yet unveiled any manifesto. And that's if he has one. And I'm now too old, to buy 'puss-inna-bag.' I already know one devil. I'll be damned if I would want to know two.
And why might I want to swap black-daawg, fi monkey? So for this one, I'll just play the hyena perched high above, in my tree, and watch this parade go by.
Be that as I'll do, our cricket has some serious fissures. And some of these, have been precipitated by long-time personality clashes, and a dogged determination to settle old vendettas. And the only casualty of all of this, is, West Indies cricket - the entity we all so claim we love.
It's some temerity on our part, to feel that we can challenge the unified Australians, English-men, Indians, New Zealanders, Pakistanis, South Africans, and Sri Lankans in the next few weeks. Gentlemen, with or without Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy, unu mad as rass. The opposition(s) have already washed clean, their dirty linen.
The Caribbean is a 'tear-down' society. So happy am I, to be just a little-man, who can afford to buy his little chicken wings, and to be 'eatin-a-food' on his own.
No need for him to depend on that wretched place, called `paradise'.
