UWI-WICB celebrity T20 cricket match to help Dominica
The University of the West Indies (UWI) in partnership with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will host a Celebrity T20 cricket match in Barbados on September 26, 2015, in support of Dominica, as the island continues to grapple with the devastation left behind as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, 2015.
The T20 match at Kensington Oval which aims to attract a sold-out crowd, will see a WICB President’s Celebrity XI play against a UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Celebrity XI.
Each team will field six West Indies’ cricketers and five Caribbean celebrities.
Former West Indies’ and Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Brian Lara, Tobago-born UK-based footballer Dwight Yorke and Jamaican Olympian athlete, Yohan Blake are among the first sporting personalities to confirm their availability for the benefit match.

Sarwan rules himself out of Jamaica franchise.
FORMER West Indies Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has ruled himself out of playing for Jamaica Franchise for the upcoming regional professional cricket season.
Sarwan, 35, had expressed an interest in representing the franchise, but Courtney Francis, the chief executive officer of the Jamaica Cricket Association, confirmed that the Guyanese-born middle-order batsman has since made an about turn.
"The selectors would have had correspondence with players and Mr Sarwan's correspondence came through chairman of selectors Wavell Hinds. He (Hinds) informed me that he is in receipt of an email from Mr Sarwan expressing regret that he is unable to attend our trial matches and our training based on commitments that Mr Sarwan has in Guyana," Francis told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
It is understood that Sarwan's commitments are of a business nature.

Thomas still hopeful
Former West Indies wicketkeeper Devon Thomas is still interested in being one of 10 players contracted by the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA).
Denying he had informed the board he was opting out of his contract, Thomas is, however, aware his only option is one that would see him being paid per match, a scenario he will gladly accept.
“I was the captain and why would I want to give up that job? I spoke to the coach (Reginald Benjamin) and I spoke to the president (Auckland Hector), but I am just hoping that I can be a part of the Leeward Islands. I can’t be one of the contracted players because they have 15 players at this time, so I am just waiting until the 6th of November which is the first game.
