Cricket Board set up health net for cricketers

NEW Minister of Health Darryl Smith is being urged to formulate a National Health Policy which will have at its cornerstone pre-game testing and screening of all athletes representing Trinidad and Tobago on the field of play.

This will assist in the early detection of lifestyle diseases which can prevent tragedy said Dr Navi Muradali, Medical Consultant, HealthNet Caribbean Clinics at the recent launch of MyCard Sport for national cricketers.

Speaking at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, Dr Muradali, a former Mayor of San Fernando said urgent attention is needed for a National Health Policy, which, had it been instituted before would have prevented the recent deaths of young footballers Akeem Adams and Kevon Carter from heart related diseases.

Muradali said that the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) must be complimented for their initiative, the first by any regional cricket board, which will safeguard the life of national cricketers.
