Charles to replace Darren Bravo squad for ICC T20World

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 15 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Johnson Charles, the attacking Windward Islands opening batsman, is to replace Darren Bravo in the West Indies 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament in India in March and April, well-placed sources have revealed.

Left-hander Bravo wrote to the selectors, stating that he wanted to focus on his Test and One-Day International career and would instead represent Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the current WICB Professional Cricket League first-class Championship, which has four rounds remaining.

“Indeed I'm very grateful and humbled for the opportunity to represent the West Indies Cricket Team at the World Cup. However, I'm of the firm belief that I have a very big part to play in the resurgence of West Indies cricket in the longer formats of the game and I will like the opportunity to play in our Professional Cricket League (PCL) because it will put me in good stead and will allow me to achieve those goals that I have aligned myself for the year 2016 and beyond,” Bravo was quoted as saying in a WICB release on Sunday.

After the Windward Islands were demolished by an innings and 56 runs by Barbados Pride on the fourth and final morning of their sixth round match at Kensington Oval today, informed sources told BCAcricket.org that the 27-year-old Charles, who scored eight and 25 in the match, had been called up to the side, captained by his fellow St. Lucian, all-rounder Darren Sammy.
