Guillen sends pre-action protocol letter to TTCB

JD SELLIER and Company, acting on behalf of its client Jeffrey Guillen, manager of Queen’s Park Cricket Club, has sent a pre-action protocol letter to the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) requesting a retraction and apology for a March 3 2016 press release titled “Action speak louder than words”.

The press release addressed the recent allegation that a high ranking cricket official sent an email on November 29 2015, mocking West Indies spinner Sunil Narine after he had been reported for a suspect bowling action and banned from bowling by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In the press release, the TTCB outlined measures it believes it took to help the Queen’s Park player in past circumstances and also present and concluded: “it is therefore very unfortunate that inspite of all that the TTCB has done and continues to do that some unscrupulous individuals are using this situation to publicly attack the TTCB and denigrate its members even as Sunil deals with this trying situation which is both emotionally and physically stressful.” Guillen, whose name was mentioned earlier in the press release, is calling for a retraction and apology from the TTCB within seven days, damages paid to him or a charity of his choosing as well as full legal costs paid.

The press release was published in the Trinidad Guardian as its lead story and headlined “Unscrupulous people using Narine to get at TTCB members”.
