Regulate bat sizes in Test cricket: Ponting

Ricky Ponting, the former Australian captain, has called for a clampdown on bat sizes in the Test format.

More than the weight of the bat itself, Ponting has called for a regulation of the size-to-weight ratio, foxsports.com.au has reported.

Ponting made his remarks at an Australian Cricket Society function, where he said that he was stunned by how light some modern bats were despite having massive edges.

“I don’t know how they are doing it to make the size of bats they are making now,” Ponting said. “The modern day bats and weight in particular — it’s just a completely different game. Full credit to them. If they are there use them, if there’s a better golf club or tennis racquet everyone will use it. It’s nothing against the players.
