Bravo had a better tournament than Sammy

Again I ask, where it the new West Indian talent that the CPL T20 was supposed to unearth and give exposure to?

Where is the young West Indian talent whom it was said would be getting valuable playing time alongside star international players in the CPL? Does watching from the sidelines or on TV count as valuable playing time in this era of so-called enlightenment?

(Dowrich, Beaton, Pooran, Bonner & Co don't count because they were unearthed before the CPL came around)

Where is all the development the CPL was supposed to bring to the Leewards team to strengthen it? Is having only 2-3 Leeward Islanders in a playing 11 of a team supposedly from the Leewards a form of development?

Is it me alone that's seeing a problem developing for the West Indies T20 team as far as getting a team of competent cricketers after the current crop of cricketers are no longer pick-able?

Is CARICOM going to grant honorary citizenship to some of these non-Caribbean based players to play for the West Indies senior team?

Now look I hear de other day dat dem man going to franchise the regional 4-day tournament.

But what new plateau of madness have we reached in dis region boy?

Samuels over Pollard

DIEHARD 2014-08-15 03:40:12

Using stats alone, picking the 8 WI batsmen with the highest averages minimum 200 runs, the line up looks like

Gayle
Smith
Simmons
Samuels
Lewis
D M Bravo
Ramdin
Russell

I pick the top 3 bowlers using a number of stats, SR is the primary measure, they must have a maximum economy of 7, a minimum of 9 wickets, and a SR maximum of 20 my bowlers end up being

Badree
Rampaul
Cotterell

Narine missed quite a bit of the tournament....until he breaks both of his hands he must be included...

doosra 2014-08-15 11:26:59

you need one really fast guy

that would be Beaton or Cotterel?

natty_forever 2014-08-15 12:45:07

In reply to BatQuake... have some patience. Yet I don't think the CPL is for that ... however, can you point me to the quote where the CPL said it would do such a thing?

The unearthing of talent rest with the WICB and its satellites. The CPL is for giving this talent unearthed (Pooran and co) some income.

natty_forever 2014-08-15 12:50:40

Gayle can take a rest.

I used stats based parameters alone, performance is the only thing taken into account in selecting my XI, and I said that.

I stated the parameters, most I would do is adjust total wickets to wicket per match, but even then, his SR of 24, does not make him one of my top performers.

If I gave less importance to SR relaxed the max to 24, and picked primarily on economy, then the top 3 performing bowlers would be

Badree, Narine and Cotterell

DIEHARD 2014-08-15 21:10:43

Interestingly enough, in my performance based XI, approaching the batting from a different angle, using SR as my primary basis, minimum average 30, total runs minimum 100, then my batters are

Highest SR first

Russell
Ramdin
Samuels
Smith
Simmons
Lewis
Gayle
DM Bravo

Same 8 as picking based on top averages.

So based on performance, I think its undeniable who the top performing batsmen were this CPL, those 8 are the only WI batsmen with a minimum of 100 runs averaging over 30

After reading everyones opinion the coach should select his own team, you cannot give a person a team and then cuss him, for the performance of the team you selected.

good point!! then there will be no need for hesitation to fire him when the team doesn't perform and show and growth...

Not in this tournament
He and Dareen look lost.
Like they are watching the "other Trinidad team enjoy themselves and wondering why aren't they with them.
Simply.
D J no place for him because like Russell he bowls tatters.
Darren looks like he in a test team.
Wrong place for him.
Let him focus on his test place.

That has been the mantra of the WI for ages.
Here is your 13 go and win.

Did you not see my post?

In this CPL just concluded, by any metric, Darren is in the top 8 batsmen, and DJ Bravo is marginally outside that with an average of 29.50

The next three batsmen in either of the two metrics I used are

DJ Bravo, Jason Holder and Pollard, reducing run minimum to 100, and minimum SR of 110, eliminates Bonner.

The next 3 bowlers after Badree Narine and Cotterell using economy as primary measure, minimum 1 wicket per game, SR less than 24, the next 3 are Gabriel, Cooper and Rampaul, if I use SR as primary measure, max economy of 7, and at least one wicket per game, we end up with these same 6 bowlers, along with the 8 batsmen previously mentioned, that's your WI- 14 man squad, throw in Santokie as your wild card, thats your 15 man team

Your method is flawed. In my opinion the openers should be compared among themselves - pick top two; Middle order batsmen among themselves - pick top three; allrounders among themselves and pick top one for #6 position; wicket-keeper-batsmen among themselves and pick the top one; bowlers among themselves and pick top four. Then select a captain.
