HEADLINE: 'India could have taken West Indies to the cleaners'

CaribbeanCricket.com Oct 28, 2014, 4:03:12 AM

Former West Indies seamer Ian Bishop has labelled the current crisis surrounding the WICB, WIPA and the players as "disappointing" and one which occurred at "the wrong place and the wrong time".

Bishop said he was shocked when West Indies' ODI captain Dwayne Bravo broke the news that the players would be pulling out of their tour of India, and expects their actions to lead to "potentially a great setback."

I totally agree as well.
All the parties involved are to blame, and right now as Andy Roberts said we should be looking at trying to pick up the pieces instead of forming task force etc.
WICricket needs to move

Bishop felt the players did not grasp how dire the financial consequences of their actions would be, and said the players, WIPA and WICB all bore a share of the blame for allowing matters to escalate so much after the tour had started. Regarding the MoU disagreement and subsequent disputes over payment structures, Bishop chalked it down to mis-communication between the parties and believed that the situation was well within resolve.

My sentiments exactly... All parties are to blame for this diabolical situation WI Cricket finds itself it.

It's stupid and pathetic to see people here, who should know better blame one side for the fiasco while defending the other side !!

bro! WICB should have tried harder to save the tour, they had the most at stake, look back at the effort in SA.

Disciple Oct 28, 2014, 5:30:06 AM

WICB should not be surprised at Bravo’s action. They appointed a mercenary as captain, so expect mercenary behavior.

I have a stupid question or two. Did the players in India tell the WICB that WIPA is no longer representing them? Are any current in place contracts signed by current WIPA as players legal reps? Ive read posts inferring that the players went to India without signed contracts; is that so or is it a disputed signrd one?

Guess in light if the unreliability of WI, before WI tours, the home team may have to buy surety bond for protection

event insurance, surety or letter of credit.

Agree completely...the board should have done everything its power to save the tour....but at the same time, the players should never have packed their bags and left mid-tour...play on and resolve matters when you get back home.
None of them (WICB, WIPA and the Players) come out looking good from this debacle...blame sharing all around!

carl0002 Oct 28, 2014, 6:10:59 AM

Yes the board should have done everything in its power to carry on the tour, while India on one side guaranteeing that IPL contract not in jeopardy, the players abandoning their union, India not accepting a replacement team, Bravo already dissed the Indian rep in regards to not playing, and Dinas turn puppet master agitating in the background.

I think you will commit suicide if and when it is determined that the MOU contained performance incentives that will allow the international players to make up the perceived loss. I know what your argument will shift to then.

POINT Oct 28, 2014, 9:37:38 AM

I would readily agree that all Parties are at fault .

HOWEVER EACH SIMPLY CANNOT ,IN MY OPINION ,

BE APPORTIONED THE SAME AMOUNT OF BLAME .

WHO EVER IS IN THE GOVERNANCE OF CRICKET

IN THE REGION MUST BE HELD MORE

RESPONSIBLE, THAN THE PLAYERS & WIPA .

If the Players were in the governance of Cricket in the Region , then I would hold them most responsible . It is very well known that :

THE TAIL DOES NOT HAVE THE POWER TO WAG

THE HEAD ; IT IS ALWAYS THE HEAD WAGGING

THE TAIL . THIS FOLKS IS AN AXIOM .

Those who think otherwise are simply being delusional . But Hell , there aint a law
as far as I am aware , against people being Delusional .

So wait if he does not have the financial details why is Admin so adamant that Wavell and Hall set out to tief the senior players. That assertion could only be coming from one place.

Yes, the Board are most to blame for mishandling the situation.... everybody (and that includes its supporters) knows the WICB are the most incompetent organisation pon the planet and we've all played that drum to death. But we shouldn't allow the players to go scot free for their deplorable actions.

Usually I'm on the side of the workers but I can't excuse their actions here. The only reason they should abandon a series is if war breaks out, terrorism, a disaster like an earthquake or pandemic breaks out!!

These greedy fackers are not going to go hungry if they stay on and complete the job at hand. They never thought out the consequences of their actions on WI and world cricket as a whole. Brainless skunts!!
Me me me and the entitlement culture has taken hold of these group players and the sooner the leaders are banished out of WI cricket the better it will be. twisted

In essence then am I being informed that you are of the opinion that you think that the WICB is doing a GREAT JOB IN THE GOVERNANCE

OF CRICKET IN THE REGION ?????

If that is the case , come out and publicly say so in this Forum . My perspective is that ALL three are wrong , but because the WICB is in the governance of Cricket in the Region , it is more wrong , in my opinion than the Players or their WIPA Representative .

The players are not the persons empowered to stop Tours . The WICB and it alone has that power . Evidently you did not hear what Mr Ralph Thorne had to say regarding this Crisis . If you didn't when Powen puts it in the Rum Shop ;please listen the
whole MASON SHOW .
