HEADLINE: Leewards Hurricanes to file complain over Jamaica loss
CaribbeanCricket.com

The Leeward Islands Hurricanes are protesting after losing to Jamaica Franchise by four wickets in the fourth round of the WICB Professional Cricket league at Sabina Park yesterday.
Coach Ridley Jacobs has complained that Hurricanes lost the match because the ball was changed on the third afternoon of the match.
Reports suggest that the ball went missing during the tea interval and another ball was unknowingly used in its place for the start of Sunday's final session.
Jacobs says the umpires misplaced the ball and came with a different ball and that changed the complexion of the game.

Protest as in what form of action? Walk off the field? The Umpires were clearly wrong to not looking into a valid complaint by the players on the field. I saw when the Players questioned the ball that was being used so why were they not given a chance to select another ball? You tell me the umps do nit have a box of balls to select from? It was 42/3 and the Leewards were in a good position to win this game and btw they were in a good position to beat TNT couple weeks back so saying that they are not usually in this position is fa
I know Ridley's job is on the line but don't try to push that as a reason for him to not expose incompetence or a possible cover up.

Maybe the Leewards would be better served by looking at their team selection...this is supposed to be franchise cricket, after all.

Leewards probably played under protest and informed the Umpires of such. They could not afford to strike and don't continue the game, could they ?
Then all hell would have broken loose.
This is a tainted win for the Jamaica Franchise team . Leewards should be awarded the 12 points and punitive action taken against the Umpires as I stated in a previous post.
In the context of the game, the Leewards pacers, Peters and Tonge had dismantled the tgop order in both innings with a harder newer ball. To give them a 30 over used and softer ball on the resumption after tea as against the 16 overs ball, was criminal.
But this being Waste Indies, NOTHING is likely to be done
And that would be no surprise.

Exactly! They brought it to the attention of the Umpires who insisted that the ball was the correct ball( as dumb as that sounds) and only at the end of the day did they realize that this was not the case. Look something is wrong here. Where did the ball disappear too? Are the Umpires not in charge of securing the balls? So wtf happened during the tea break? This result must either be overturned or replayed as Jamaica were reeling at 42/3 and all of a sudden Lambert's counter attack on an older ball. If Leewards had walked off the filed they would have possibly forfeited the match. They continued to play as the Umpires claimed the ball was the correct one.

play in the hope of an outright win
should you then lose holler fuh murdah.
had it been brought to the attention of Lambert ,I am sure he would have agreed to their request
I suspect the leedots have been victims of ball changes fuh quite awhile

youre reasoning seems to be correct based on the reports. its not the case where the umpires admitted it was a different ball on the field and the leewards agreed to use it. the reports suggest that the umpires insisted the ball was correct, the leewards players said it was not correct and the umpires said play. only at end of the day did apparently the umpires then admit that it was indeed the wrong ball.

Come on Pond. They played on because the Umpires insisted that the ball was the correct ball what you wanted them to do? Make a big row and be called fined for bringing the game into disrepute. You are not supposed to question the Umpire's word? They have a very valid claim and I hope the WICB do the right thing. I find it rather strange that a ball that should be in the security of the umps could be changed at the tea break.

Only one team can win. The JA Franchise were the beneficiary of the Umpires' incompetence and did not win .All the advantage went to them. This is not a matter of bad decisions on the field of play such as an LBW or disputed catch etc which are all part of the game.
Changing a ball to their advantage when it was not damaged and was disputed by the Opposing team meant that their 'win' is tainted.
If the match is given to the Leewards, all JA would be entitled to is bonus points earned.Only one team is entitled to the points 12, for a win or an awarded game.
That's my story and I sticking to it

Had the Jamaican franchise lost and then subsequently learnt that the ball was changed, perhaps they too would have made a complaint!! then what?

That is your perception but I perceive it differently. The ball was changed for an older one so how did that happen? By mistake? I doubt it.

Leewards should be awarded the 12 points
To quote John McEnroe, "You can not be serious!".
Look the umpires are in charge of the game and yes, sometimes they screw up. We don't invalidate the result when the cameras show they missed a nick, or a run-out or a no-ball etc. No need to now. The situation is not much different to the case that would have arisen had the ball had been hit out of the ground and lost, and the closest 'similar' ball available had 36 overs on it. Sometimes, a team will get the breaks and sometimes they'll go against them.
You can make the argument that this level of incompetence rises above the norm, in which case their (the umps) continued employment should be reviewed. However, the result must, and will, stand.

John McEnroe I am not. I am serious.
This goes beyond incompetence. This is skewering the events of a match in favour of one side.
It is not an on field call which we live by.
These umpires could easily have changed the pitch too and the team would have had to play. Right ?
How the hell do you lose a ball within twenty minutes...???? This ball was not hit ougt of the ground or damaged. It was withdrawn from the game to give the batting side a notable advantage after they have mangled all game by two pacers who used the new ball very well.
Thew Difference between 16 ovedrs and 36 overs is huge.
Even in 50 overs ODI no ball is used for more than 25 overs.
The Leewards were gieb the sh..ty end of the stick and should be awarded the match. The Home team and home umpire should pay the penalty.
It is also fair and unfair under the spirit of the game. In this case one hand can't clap.

Only if you believe this was deliberate, and there is no evidence to suggest that this is anything more than the rank incompetence that permeates WI cricket. Indeed if there was any subterfuge, I would expect that the umps just stick to their claim that they did use the correct ball and not admit that the ball was lost. It's near impossible after a match to prove whether the ball was indeed switched, after it's been bashed around for another 30 or 40 overs.

Again you assume intent, where there is no evidence to suggest it. If true this looks bad, but that's a long way from proven malice.

The question is how di hell yuh find a different ball without knowing seh yuh lose one?
The first one didn't just fall outta yuh pocket and di second one automatically hopped in and tek its place...had to be some human intervention.
Dem umpires should be charged and also banned from entering all first class cricket zones because dem did know and should have informed both teams.

poor job by the umps, don't see enough at stake for them to make a deliberate effort to change things, Jamaica's batting has the same pattern in all the innings played this year, so it is a stretch to say LWD would win from that position.

Hubert this is a rare instance where I disagree with you, albeit hesitantly. There are
two victims here...the bowling AND the batting side. We are all operating under the faulty assumption that
had the proper ball been used, the results would have been different. That's not fair to Jamaica, whose second innings mirrored the first....top 4 batsmen contributing less than 25 runs collectively.
That being said, both teams should be awarded an equal amount of points or the match must be replayed.

Disagree all you want.
Man you must be joking. Jamaica Franchise was down and struggling with the hard ball. Then after tea they had a soft ball for meal and it is unfair to JAMAICA ?
You must be kidding. So it was fair to the Leewards ?
There are two victims here...the bowling AND the batting side.
Nonsense. The only victim is the bowling side. How is Jamaica a victim ?
You cannot award equal points. On what basis can you justify this ?
Had you really played competitive cricket you would recognize that the Leewards had the momentum going into tea.
The umpires changed that.
