HEADLINE: Huge selection mistakes by Lloyd and partners

Sometimes we make mistakes! That is human. Other times our decisions are based upon moments of anger, jealousy, and even vindictiveness, especially in sport. Since the announcement of Jason Holder’s choice as captain of the West Indies ODI squad, it seems as though there have been many more reasons for the selectors to include or omit players, many of which may not have logical explanations.
It is clear to see that the selected team does not reflect what could appear to be sensible analyses of the players who are eligible contenders. Just a few months ago, these same selectors had chosen Dwayne Bravo to lead the ODI squad against Ireland, New zealand, Bangladesh and India, a clear and fair decision, if there was ever one. Who would have challenged the athletic all-rounder’s extraordinary ability to bat, bowl, and field as good as anyone with similar capabilities?

It was a huge mistake appointing Dwayne Bravo as ODI Captain and his leading the players' walkout of the Indian tour was unacceptible.
So now a Trini newspaper calling foul, many here know my opinion on both players, with batting averages in the mid 20s, none of them should be an automatic choice.
Time for renewal, with players who dont think it should be IPL, home country then West Indies cricket.
Let them play T20I cricket, thats all they are really interested in.

It is samfi man management technique to put people to work without telling them what you paying them WICB fcuked up, not the players that walked, the players should take them to court for the aborted tour.

Poor you. It is so sad that technology and low cost now make it possible for even the stupid and the ignorant to have a loud voice.
I assume you can read. So read the article again and see if your pea bran can muster a counter to the salient points made.

Why did the players leave for India without a signed contract.

Plain and simple!!!! Bravo's leadership was in question after what happen in India. He cost the WICB millions of dollars in loss. Just like in any other organization if you blatantly and publicly go against a management structure even if they are wrong - you will pay the consequence. Same goes here and also for the other senior players who the WICB believe "mess" them up. This is how organizations works - can't see why everyone is surprise of the WICB actions.
Bravo and Holder are both all-rounders with almost similar average. (Holder 13.62 for batting and 28.65 bowling, while Bravo 25.36 batting and 29.51 bowling). So it is logical to choose Holder given the fact that his career has just started and he shows potential. The only concern now is his leadership and tactical skills and if being captain will affect his overall performance.

The India tour was under the old MOU even if they did not sign the contract. The new MOU did not affect the India tour - only future arrangements. This is why their strike action was stupid!!!

based on your logic ,why not fire the entire management, for I am sure there is a lot more that could be done to save the Indian tour?

Stop talking foolishness. The India tour can not be governed by an old MOU that was tossed out in court.
How you figure?

Wat is this Cornmeal fellow saying, really?
New dispensation, this is the new testament under comrade Cameron and his technocrats!
Good riddance to the money grabbing, under performing strike leaders!

If you read the Task Force Report on the new MOU it states that "Wavell Hinds was firmly of the view that the September MOU was not in and of itself a contract but rather an agreed understanding that would lead to a collective bargaining agreement in much the same way as the prior MOU/CBA arrangement had worked
While some part of the old MOU was tossed out in court their pay of the India tour was already agreed upon to be reflected in their contract.

Camos, I agree that all the WICB management should be fired!! They are pathetic with no leadership ability. But you miss the BIG point. the WICB is the boss while the players are employees!! That is the BIG difference.
Also remember that even though the WICB was in the wrong - They agreed to come to India to discuss the problems with the players. According to the task report, "ODI captain and players representative Dwayne Bravo, said the squad had been aware of the imminent arrival in India of a joint WICB/WIPA delegation", but they still went ahead and abandon the tour knowing that Cameron and Hinds were due to come on October 21, just 4 days after strike.
Why did Bravo and the others did not wait and hear what they had to say?

Dude, its the union that's the biggest miscreant here. WIPA negotiated a lously contract and worse yet, failed to inform the players immediately, which was long before the tour started. The players wanted a union, elected a jerk as a president, so you tell me who should bear the players' wrath?

The salient points are 2 mediocre 25 sinting players hijack a tour and the fools in the Caribbean automatically line up behind the players. We all hate the WICB so much we can no longer rationally argue individual incidents. Automatically the WICB is wrong.

The players are not employees, they are CONTRACTORS.

Same difference - employees or contractors. Both can be fired or contract terminated legally by the BOSS. WICB can choose who they want as captain and they did just that - whether the public agrees or not....

Anyone who believes that Bravo could remain our captain after his disrespect to ALL West Indies cricket fans is going too far?
As I think about it, I am happy that someone like him who was and is so stubborn and hard headed has been left out of our team make up. Maybe down the road he might come back?

Look at the obligations of the WICB and WIPA to the players, Did they fulfill them?
Look at the obligations of the players to WICB and WIPA, Did the players fulfill them?
Who committed the first breach? WICB? WIPA? Players? Did anyone act jointly along with another party in committing that first breach?
What harm was done and to whom? Any remedies?

The MOU defines the overall framework for player compensation among other things. Its agreed to by both parties and normally there is a ratification process. Now the players may or may not have an argument that proper ratification took place, it all depends on how that process is defined by the players association bylaws. However it seems either you or Wavell or both confused about what the MOU represents, cuz if memory serves me right he announced at a press conference that they reached an agreement on the mou. So I am not sure how Wavell can now be confused that he thought the MOU that he announced as being agreed upon, would now lead to another collective agreement. The MOU is the collective agreement. So you need to check that story again cuz something not sounding right.
