ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board today announced the West Indies squad to contest the Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

Jason Holder (Captain), Marlon Samuels (Vice Captain), Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Carter

Sheldon Cottrell, Christopher Gayle, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy

Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Jerome Taylor

Chairman of the Selection Panel Clive Lloyd said he has high hopes for the squad which is a competitive mix of experienced players and some fresh faces.

“I believe we have selected a very good team which will do West Indies proud at the World Cup. We have a good mixture of some good seasoned players and some good youngsters who will fly the West Indies flag in Australia and New Zealand,” Lloyd said.

“If they play to their potential I am quite sure we will do very well. I have really high hopes in this team – I believe they can do something special. We have the talent and if we can play to our potential we have a very good chance of lifting that trophy,” Lloyd said.

WI selectors shd not have made JHolder the Captain--That means he have to play ever game--With Cotterell, Taylor, Roach, Narine and Russell---And Sammy will play as a quota pick--

What the heck are the selectors thinking? Makes no sense to tie both hands--

I would even try to figure out what the Selectors are trying to accomplish, but I wish the team all the luck. However, naming Samuels as vice captain is a good New Year joke.

Taylor plays over Sammy for me. Smith and Russell are my all rounders. Sammy is excess to requirements.

Smith only opens in T 20s for me

Gayle
Bravo
Samuels
Ramdin
Simmons
Smith
Russell
Holder
Taylor
Roach
Narine

That's my xi as well. If Sammy not doing well, Taylor comes in.

Samuels and Simmons performance will determine how well west indies go in this tournament. You absolutely cannot reach far in a tournament without big contribution from your middle order.

In a way, i'm glad that Bravo and Pollard got left out, because we might have been seeing 4 all rounders in the xi. If they were selected, didn't really care who they play, once they don't pack all of them in the xi. That will only work well in T20s. I still think playing Sammy and Russell is not the ideal way to go but with a lousy batting line up, I can see the logic of trying to compensate!

If i had to play one all rounder, it would be Russell for ODI's. Russell ah the real bad man. If given a good run, sure he can out do all the others.
big grin

Russell if made an automatic could have an outstanding tournament. Marlon Samuels as vice is strange knowing that bowlers can easily break down.Holder could miss a game.

Nonsensical to make Holder Captain in the WC--Not that he is not Captain material but, lawd gaad man--They really do not have any sense--Plus, another handicap is he is a bowler!!
I guess the criteria for making WI Captain is he speaks well--Why is he not Captaining the team to gain valuable experience in SA?
Are we that clueless?

I have no problems with Holder being named as captain, a lot of posters recently has been criticising Ramdin and we all have seen the reaction to Sammy being made Skipper. No captain will make a difference to the licks that coming our way.

Also I expect we will get knocked out in the first round with this squad.

We Narine, Bravo and Roach who due to lack of cricket and other reasons hasn't played much (if any) cricket recently.

None of the batsmen inspire confidence. Too hit and miss. If Bravo fails as I expect him to do, no one in the team to build an innings around.

I am betting we don't make more than 200 in any games against the major teams.

Loyalty goes a long way.

Don't understand Holder being captain myself, he needs to improve his bowling action, and isn't an automatic selection. It's like Sammy all over again.

Now these people are a bunch of comedians. Samuels vice captain, Jerome Taylor who is bowling pure shyte, Holder an inexperienced player much less captain, Daren Sammy who is neither a batsman or a bowler, Russell the dumb skunt!

Ok, I am cheering for Pakistan this world cup!

I have always maintained that Samuels should be made captain of the W.I. team.

Give him responsibility and transform him into one of the best cricketers in town!
