HEADLINE: Bravo to make about turn

CaribbeanCricket.com May 9, 2015, 3:45:18 AM

He retired from Test cricket last year and many thought it was too soon but Dwayne Bravo is likely to make an about turn and make himself available for Test cricket again.
Sources close to the all-rounder said he is showing an interest into coming back into Test cricket under the new coach Phil Simmons. “Dwayne made a call on his Test career at a difficult time but has since realised that there is still a place in Test cricket for him and under the new coach, he is likely to make a turn and make himself available.”

The source added that this call from Bravo is likely to come soon, as he looks to get back into “whites” where he has a decent record as an all-rounder.
“People are saying that the West Indies team needs a fifth bowler and that by having Jason Holder on the team, the balance is not right. However, having Jason Holder there, opens the team for a return for Bravo because you can now sacrifice a batsman and bring in Bravo who together with Holder will give you runs and be able to take wickets.”

If Bravo comes back the present players should resign from test cricket

I do hope I'll never see him in West Indian colour again.
Maybe Andre Russell but certainly not Dwayne Bravo.

Show Pony needs to stay away from WI cricket--After what he a his Henchmen did in India no way he plays for WI anymore--

I can see ARussell in WI whites--Plus, JHolder is doing a great job--No need for Show Pony Bravo--

doosra May 9, 2015, 3:58:46 AM

We cannot decide what he should do

he needs to play first class cricket, prove himself ready, and make himself available for selection. then it will be over to Mr. Lloyd and co.

it's a long ahead

is there a world cup around the corner soon?

I think if Lloyd gets his way, Bravo would never play for WI again. He cost the WICB and the Caricom region 42 million dollars, which bankrupt organization would invite someone like him back.

Why can't Bravo stay in IPL and other T20 leagues around the globe and make money like unnuh like to point out? Why try to come to test cricket to cause Controversy and Cornfused the team?

Drapsey May 9, 2015, 4:35:46 AM

Bravo's retirement from test cricket was a moot point if only because he couldn't make the team anyway. Apart from proving that he doesn't have the capacity to make up his mind, why then would we think there is any significance to his reversal of that decision?

Pipe dream--

So because his countryman Simmons is coach he is having second thoughts? That shows how(what) he thinks about WI cricket--It says a lot about his mentality and attitude..

If Simmons were to use his influence as WI Head Coach to include his countryman Bravo in any West Indies Test Team, I humbly predict that he would soon be crawling on hands and knees back to the Emerald Isle.

Bravo likes to be in the center of events or people's attention, didn't he run for political office in Trinidad lately, isn't he a part-time Soca artist, what else?

Kay May 9, 2015, 4:53:19 AM

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com

there is still a place in Test cricket for him and under the new coach, he is likely to make a turn and make himself available.

That is putting pressure on Simmo. This is like saying that he had no chance with the old coach but would be more favourable to the new one

Great day for WI cricket. Definitely the best allrounder in the WI at the moment from test to t20. Let the usual jingoistic culprits cry me a river. He brought sanity to WI cricket by taking on the bandits but the idiots here have absolved the WI and Clive Lloyd of all all the blame. It is obvious that Simmons had a say in his decision to return.

If it would mean the sudden (pun intended) end of of some posters even better for WI cricket.

If you're making reference to Russell, his biggest problem this IPL season is finding space to store all those MOM trophies. If there were such a category in the statistics, he would certainly be leading by an insurmountable margin.

Mr. Bravo the showman should not be allowed to walk into our Test team because of a dismal past Test record. And there's the recent India event…

After reading crap from both sides of the Bravo divide,I despair at the lack of intelligence displayed on this board.
If you are genuinely interested in West Indies cricket being the best it can be,you have to welcome Bravo back into contention for a test place.Let him compete for a place in the West Indies test team.He has to earn his way back into the team by performing with both bat and ball in first class cricket. If he performs he will be selected. If he does not he will not be selected. It should be as simple as that.

Exactly. I am a Bravo supporter and always wanted on the test team. But he made his bed. Now if he wants to undo it then all the better for West-Indies cricket. Maybe he should stay away from the whites and allow this team to grow.
but it Would be really good if all the West-Indies all rounders would commit to regional cricket. Bravo is the better bat and decent bowler. Rusell, quick and can be better at both. Holder can be equally good with both bat and ball.

Some team harmony and Test fighting spirit with new players except Samuels-Shiv on his way out and one wants to bring back disruption?!

The team at present has no one IPL wants so leave it be. If one develops and IPL comes calling there will be another to take his place. The Test grooming under Lloyd has begun;only players with little to no IPL attractiveness will be selected. big grin big grin

As I have said,he should only be selected if he performs well with both bat and ball.In addition before he is selected he would have to declare his availability for what ever test series we are about to play.
Bottom Line.He would have EARNED HIS SELECTION!!!!!!!

Commie May 9, 2015, 9:29:59 AM

As you could see from WI regional cricket, earning a selection isn't difficult.

At some point you have to weigh the value of Bravo as a cricketer and a personality within the Test team and look to move forward.

Else you risk destroying any green shoots of promise.

Bravo was never dropped for any cricketing reasons, but in furtherance of an agenda.

First, he was excluded to accommodate someone who was otherwise incapable of making the team on merit, and who was demonstrably inferior as a a cricketer. Later, there were 3 vocal "ringleaders" of that ill-fated tour to Indian-Bravo, Sammy & Pollard.

Bravo & Pollard paid the penalty for that action-regardless of the garbage the selectors would have us believe-yet the third ringleader was curiously pardoned for being part of the fiasco in India, by being included in the squad to the World Cup 2015.

The agenda was so clear!

Bravo might find it is not so easy.He has had limited success in first class cricket for T&T.The last time Bravo scored a century for Trinidad and Tobago was in 2004.He averages 30.79 with the bat for T&T and has played several matches for T&T where he did not bowl.I suggest you examine his record for T&T and do not assume anything.

Dont Understand why he should mentor anyone. Who has Shiv, Marlon, Sammy etc Mentor? Interestingly Blackwood says he was mentored by Gayle and Russel who are outcasts in WI team.

Bravo: Batting Average of 31.5 and Bowling average of 40....

21.1 overs 0-57 are not great figures but it is 2.69 runs per over.
Compare that to 28 overs 0-100 for Kemar Roach but you think that Holder and not Roach lost us the second test!!!!!
BTW Who saved us the first test?????????
You tell me when was the last time that Bravo changed the result of a test match so decisively.
Holder is 23 years old and as a bowler is LIKELY TO GET BETTER.His current test bowling average is 34.46 with 13 wickets in 6 test matches an economy rate of 2.79 and a strike rate of 74.23
Bravo has 86 wickets from 40 tests at 39.84 an economy rate of 3.18 and a strike rate of 75.19
Bravo is 31 years old so is quite unlikely to get better.Bravo has to earn his way back into the test team by performing well in first class cricket. He has not done that for some time and I suggest that it will not be easy. His batting record for T&T is quite poor with an average of 30.79 and 2 of his total of 3 centuries were against a weak ass West Indies B team and he has ZERO centuries against Guyana,Barbados or Jamaica. He has a lot of work to do!!!!

but pitting bravo against him and saying bravo is not as good is ridiculous, in aussieland the logic was to select test players at the age of 30 because of maturity and experience for the test team.. bravo went through worse turmoils when he started his career than holder... holder has less pressure and has a better coach and bowling coach...

If Bravo is playing as an all-rounder he will have to displace Holder. The concept of 2 all-rounders in a test team is possible but I think we should play our best 6 batsmen.Unfortunately for Bravo there are no first class matches for him to stake his claim for the 2 tests against Australia.
I would be astonished if Bravo is selected for this Australian series.

I agree that Dwayne Bravo is a much better all-rounder than J Holder - especially as a batsman. Holder needs to show he could score runs in the top order to start comparing with Big B.

As a bowler they both have their specific strengths, that would complement each other nicely.

As an entertainer, Big B is in a special group, with Gayle, Russell and possibly Sammy only.

If Bravo is better than Holder, I AM 300 YEARS OLD !!

In reply to Pacy Holder played as the 3rd seamer in the test matches. There were questions as to whether his bowling is strong enough to be the first change bowler....but are you suggesting that Bravo is a better test bowler than Holder - even now (forget about the 23 yr old's development potential).

I would contend that at test cricket level even Samuel's bowling would be more useful than Bravo's. But I would love to hear your views.

The more the merrier. The more depth the better.
I think holder is already better and has the potential to be a lot more dangerous with the ball in tests because
he is quicker and taller. Bravo is I think a really good odi/t20 bowler who could do an ok job at test level.
Batting-wise bravo could have been a really good test bat.
I love watching him but he is LOOSE! Holder again looks like a fine player with a tighter technique.
Bravo is a good player and I would welcome him back.

Bravo can easily make the team, he is not better than Holder.

Norm May 11, 2015, 2:38:37 AM

Bravo took a couple of really outstanding catches, plus a few wickets, in addition to scoring a few runs for his team today in India.

Let's see the youngsters match that, or even try to.

If Simmons could include Samuels, who is a snake and is of less value to the team than Bravo, why should he not ask Bravo back?
...

As usual you know very little. Evrything I post is cricket gospel. It is both your place and position at birth that causes your slowness, no shame in that celebrate it as much as you can
.

...Bravo to make about turn... to his test cricket retirement rocking chair shock

Scar May 12, 2015, 7:53:06 PM

In reply to Norm Thats why he plays only in that format for WI. BTW the same youngsters held their catches and took at least 3 apiece in wickets. Easier to get wickets in T20 format as overs run out or scoring rate lowers.

If he returns he should open the batting.

I see that. I got confused with his ODI representation with his FC representation. So it makes him ineligible for this year.

About turn huh ! Dat turncoat ? We seem to have short memories. He once listed his loyalties to the teams he represents as His IPL team, then his T&T team, then Windies team. That was his order of loyalty/importance to him.

He refused contracts he was offered. Again showing he cares little for Windies.

Then he was the main instigator in the India fiasco. So now he wants to forget all and come back ? Well I do not care about whether he is a good allrounder or even the best. As a supporter I personally do not want to see him in Windies colours again ever.

I hope his antics and stupidity do not rub off on Darren. sad
