"The players are free. They will not be attached to a particular team of the franchise that is suspended,"
In a landmark judgement, the Supreme court of India appointed Lodha panel, on Tuesday, suspended IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for a period of two years in connection with the betting and spot-fixing scandals in the IPL.
The sentencing panel also meted out severe punishments to Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra and banned them for life from all BCCI-related cricket activities. Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, who were indicted in betting activities during IPL 2013, were said to have brought the game to disrepute in addition to their betting misdemeanors.
The committee also reasoned that the verdict wouldn't particularly affect the players associated with the concerned franchises.

Amazing, Didn't see that Coming!
Well Done.
They really need to Re-Build IPL from Scratch. The conflict of interest is all over the place.

Man this is rough...
The panel came down hard on Gurunath, who they felt had caused "huge injury" to the image of the game, and said that India Cements had not shown to have taken any action against him.
"Any agony suffered by him because of media coverage or any hardship that may have been caused to him is too small in comparison to the huge injury he caused to the reputation and image of the game, the IPL and the BCCI. If the reputation and image of the sport are lost, what remains? Being 40 years of age, he is not young but middle-aged. It is difficult to accept that he has passion for the game.

Both franchises will be back next year. Probably with the same ownership as well. That's my prediction, anyway. Bleh.

On the contrary, soon after winning the IPL DC was banished.

This was coming... When the R&R players were banned without inquiry why not the administrators and teams. CSK was always been in the brink of being exposed. Some of the players should be happy that they are not exposed yet... BUt that too might come soon

Yeah, maybe you're right.
Has Teflon Srinivasan evaded any further scrutiny in this whole matter?

So is it the franchises or the franchise owners who get banned?

From what I am reading, I think FuzzyWuzzy is correct. Once the BCCI accepts the ruling then both franchises are banned unless they have new owners by the way of selling or transferring of rights.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for a period of two years in connection with the betting and spot-fixing scandals in the IPL.
Note that spot fixing is carried out on the field of play by players!!!
BTW watch out for the influx of Indian ownership and bookies into the CPL. It has started already.

What would be your solution to stop the Indian ownership and bookies from tarnishing the integrity of the CPL?

I would stop T20 cricket..., especially all the 'PL flavours. It's a haven for match fixing. Soon it will leak into test cricket again.
