HEADLINE: 2017 million dollar question for WICB

CaribbeanCricket.com Aug 5, 2015, 2:41:35 AM

The West Indies will miss the  International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Champions Trophy 2017. What a pity.

Who is to blame? That is the US$2 million question.

How can anyone explain why the West Indies Cricket Board (WIBC) did not plan a one-day series since the aborted Indian tour in 2014? Surely someone should have been monitoring the team’s position as it relates to qualification.

Over 12 months have elapsed and there is a strong feeling that the Board’s administrators, particularly those responsible for planning, were caught sleeping on the job.

Nothing new.
When they lost the WISDEN to Eng.the president

....didn`t know they were playing for it.

I doubt he even knew what the Wisden was!

I have been told the WICB is working on getting the organisers to adjust the rules to allow the West Indies into the tournament.

That is another matter and would appear to be rather far-fetched, although in cricket’s current environment anything may be possible.

This is our only hope- here's a proposal that will interest the BCCI- change the rules, allow WI to play, then take 50% of the WICB earning to help offset the India debt.

BTW, Everything in this article is spot on.

50% according to this article would be $1M US ,, In Indian cricket ,, this is lunch money .... not enough incentive to break the rules or even given them a head ache trying to figure out how to get WI in the tournament.

Perhaps the players who was so worried about missing their IPL money should have given more thought to making even less money as a result of missing lucrative tournaments down the road. The consequences of actions. Hmmmm!!

A mean if you want to cast blame thats fine as it appears thats all the article appears to do.

But Baptiste could have gone a step further and see which teams were available for tournaments during the period. Its not like higher ranked teams are sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. Cuz a lower rsnked team would not cut it since WI would need to pay them to participate in a tournament and does the WICB have that kind of coin sitting on?
So just like how Dave Cameron should have done his homework, Baptiste could just have done his homework b4 writing what is really a nothing article. My gosh the editor could have sent him back to do some homework.

The new rule of 8 wont change unless one of the big 3 fall to borderline 7 and they will fix schedules to prevent that. Historically WI has always played the least ODI so any alteration or blip in their tour schedule will hurt their ODI points standing.

The bolded part should read those in the governance of cricket in the region. All should be blamed....

All who played along with these incompetent morons are accomplices in dis mess.

All di goons want is control. The custodians of di game are responsible for dis mess.

WI will always be the odd man out following expansion of the participating teams. When WI was on top there were less,Test and ODI teams participating.
The additional problem is that our region is the only one climate wise whose summer is hurricane affected and unpredictable. To make matters worse it coincides with more predictable bad weather in the other Test nations - winter in OZ,NZ and RSA; Monsoon in India,SL and Bang. That creates a log jamb for those teams to play each other in Asia before monsoon and England before the cold. The result this year as we saw was NZ and OZ tours in England to coincide with their winters, RSA tour to Asia b4 the monsoon.
There could have been a SL play during the CPL period pushing it forward or back due to its short run time and considering its Internationals are mostly retirees.

The tight schedules since more teams are involved in ODI than Tests and the small windows of playing opportunity in WI summer doesnt help especially when you have management with poor planning foresight.

WI needs to pile on ODI with ZIM, Bang and SL plus the odd RSA in Tri series.

The small window of playing during WI summer was used to play de CPL and two warm up test series fuh de Ashes....WI took Bangla fuh granted and was very comfortable being number 8...too bad Pakistan and India got picked off by Bangla and then de Saffies did not help by losing to Bangla....SL also mek sure they got beaten by Pakistan to guarantee all de Asian teams qualify fuh de ICC Champions Trophy...

I guess we could have seen this coming fuh a while now!

I questioned the absence of one day cricket from the WI home Series in 2015.
At the time I was looking as the loss of revenues associated with ODI's.

Having to find a six week window for the CPL is going to present huge problems for the current administrators with zero history of good governance.

So based on scars note, SL was the only higher ranked team, available to play within the last year. You indicated that SL made sure that Pakistan beat them to ensure that all the Asians teams qualified. So putting that together, why would SL turn around and agree to a makeup series with WI to potentially undo all the hard work done to make sure all the Asian teams qualify, when not playing WI practically guarantee that WI would be out.

Just asking?

We have less than a handful of players good enough to make up an ODI team.

The fact that the chairman of selectors chose to victimize a couple of the best ones....

...suggests that it would not have mattered.

We didn't fail to qualify, we're still playing the same lazy man cricket with a lazy man board for the last 15 years. why we fail to qualify is because Bangladesh went into overdrive and no one see that was coming including India and South Africa. lol

This whole idea of West Indies cricket should be discarded. I am looking forward to the day when we do not have to even remember the names of those dummies who call themselves cricketers representing the West Indies. The sooner we forget the names of Bravo, Gayle and the likes, the better. All these shameless individuals do is contaminate West Indies cricket. And if it takes the termination of West Indies cricket for us to forget these individuals, so be it!
