HEADLINE: WICB President, Vice President speak at town-hall meeting in Jamaica

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-08-08 19:49:02

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The series of town-hall meetings hosted by the West Indies Cricket Board continued on Friday here.

President and Vice President, Dave Cameron and Emmanuel Nanthan, were the two main speakers.

The meeting was dominated by cricket aficionados mainly from the corporate area clubs and other long standing officials. The questions, typical of town-hall meetings were varied but the audience zoned in on key issues like:

-How will be the WICB handle the overexposure of youngsters to the Twenty20 version of the game

-The absence of the senior team from the 2017 Champions trophy

-Role of regional governments in ensuring that cricket is taught in schools

-Team bonding and building for on and off the field performance

Other issues of governance, marketing and skills development were also discussed.

President Cameron in his opening remarks invited the group for a moment of silence to recognise the passing of the former WICB and Barbados Cricket Association President, Captain Peter Short.

Additionally the President summarised a number of programmes the Board is currently involved in “aiming at being efficient and effective as we as a region seek to re-invest in the sport that we all love so much”.

The Professional Cricket League which now captures up to 120 players plus officials in a pool, is hailed as one of the new programmes to re-establish the sport over the next few years.

This is PCL, the President says, “increases the number of first class games to 10 in a season, while leaving the window open for the IPL and the CPL, offering players an additional opportunity to maximise earnings.”

The President is confident that in two to three years “we will all have a product to be proud of.”

Hope Point was able to attend the town Hall, after making so many inquiries as to the date,

lol lol

POINT 2015-08-08 21:48:22

Neither the Jamaica Gleaner nor the Jamaica
Observer , apparently covered the Town Hall Meeting . I perused both Newspapers , and saw nary a word about the Town Hall Meeting .

I have no idea who was responsible for this , Cameron is a citizen of Jamaica , and in his capacity as the President of the West
Indies Cricket Board , I expected that the
Media in Jamaica would have been in attendance .

Becca et al , possibly may be writing articles , The release of this article came from the WICB Website . If in a couple of days , there is no news from the local Press , perhaps a communication snafu occurred somewhere along the line .

It would have been interesting to hear the
answers that were given to the questions asked , but I guess that was not important
to be put in in the article the WICB provided .

What's the status on the $42 Million?

What's the status on the $42 Million?

The slimy Jamaican Dave already wriggled himself out of that one. There's a planned Indian tour, isn't it?

Anyway, you guys like the timing of this latest Town-hall meeting right there in the Yard during Emancipation/Independence week?

Those Yardies got their coming home trips all paid for by the WICB.wink

Call Dave whatever you want, excepting stupid, of course.

It seems the only person that losing sleep about the WICB is Point.
The media don't even considerer it news, I doubt they send anyone to cover it.

POINT 2015-08-09 19:17:59

The point I was & am making is that those
in the governance of Cricket in the Region , may not have publicized the Town Hall Meeting , Those who live in Jamaica , could shed some light regarding this Issue .

It also could be that the General Public
were/are disinterested in going to Town
Hall Meetings . My take is that Action speak louder than words .

That being the case , it would be
newsworthy if those in the governance of Cricket stated that they are in favour of serious Structural changes ; regarding Cricket in the Region .

In my opinion this must be the first thing that must be done , to save Cricket
in the Region . The Structure has been broken for many years .

Unfortunately those in the governance of
Cricket in the Region do not want the Spotlight shining on the Structure . So
they and their assistants in the Media
prefer to turn the Spotlight on the Players .

Next Town Hall, send your questions via Twitter or Facebook, seeing you are super interested in the works of the WICB

POINT 2015-08-10 11:31:47

Openning ,

FYI , the works of the WICB are always before us and they aint nothing to shout about ; Loop -Digicel Sports Max stated that Bad Communication by the WICB was blamed for disappointing WICB Town Hall Meeting at the University of the West Indies , Cave Hill Campus , which it states was poorly attended .

According to Winston Stafford , the lack of Bodies can be attributed to Poor Communication . Stafford complained that the BCA was not involved in the Planning , when they should have been involved ;
Cameron stated that Communications were sent to Joel Garner & Smith .

This graphically demonstrates the point that I have consistently made in this Forum . The WICB & its Member Boards lack Professionalism .

slimy Jamaican Dave

This seems to be a popular formulation on this MB.

Please remind me,when did "Jamaican" become an epithet?

...I never held out much hope for this 'new' WICB because it was the same discredited cabal with the same people playing musical chairs.

Remind, who was it again who had a side deal with a potential sponsor, while they were in the middle negotiations on a new deal,to have said sponsors refurbish his cricket club?

If this action is true...then slimy dat.

As usual, you miss the point by a mile! rolleyes

I hold no brief for anyone at the WICB-regardless of nationality-its the same old gang in different roles!

Again I ask, when did "Jamaican" become a slur ie "Jamaican Dave"

Is this individual a different person from "slimy Black Dave" or "Slimy Male Dave"?

In reply to jacksprat

The slur here is slimy...like the lazy old Jacksprat.

Slimy is the descriptive adjective or epithet here.

Allyuh jamaicans too sensitive. The use of "jamaican" is what has infuriated you.

...........

BTW, If I were Jamaican Dave I would have been more offended by your quote reported in my penultimate post.

The public don't care about the WICB, it is not a dinner table topic.
Why would anyone waste time going to a Town Hall meeting?
Are they not going to hear the same bs, they have been hearing for years

This regime-the discredited cabal-is basically the same as the one headed by "St. Lucian Double-Ugly"; or the one led by by "Trinidadian Ken"; or "Barbadian Wes".

Get my drift? It would helpful if you got ahold of the Lucky Report!

The current president was a water boy for the preceding regime, but the "Jamaica Dave" epithet was not in play then. I guess "Jamaican" is supposed to be a synonym for 'devious' because I have noticed he has be called, interchangeably "Devious Dave" & "Jamaican Dave"?

The last regime-the one led by President Double-Ugly, who had been involved with the WICB for close to 40 years-was a "discredited cabal", not because of the nationality of the leader but because of the prevailing culture of incompetence and corruption which shadowed it!!!

The essential nature of the WICB has not changed despite the different color of the passports of the office holders!

There is nothing new in the above...you have discredited Dave Cameron and the rest of the ugly man gang from time immemorial.

NOW DEAL WITH YOUR SENSITIVE ISSUE you latched onto...the epithet...in the context of your quoted statement from De Courtesy.

jacksprat 2015-08-10 13:18:07

Of course there is nothing new!

These clowns have discredited themselves. It is a matter of public record!

What is there to deal with?

Is it not a fact, for example, that Kensington Cricket Club-the club of which one of the WICB honchos-was refurbished by the same telecom giant at the same time the WICB was in sensitive sponsorship negotiations with same company?

Talk about being ethically challenged!

Do you think it was by accident why most informed Jamaicans looked askance at the candidacy of this president-without regard to his passport?

I acknowledge the above.

NOW DEAL WITH YOUR SENSITIVE ISSUE you latched onto...the epithet...in the context of your quoted statement from De Courtesy.

Only Jacksprat has the license for slurs and he can use it a will.

Further, there is no problem when Jacksprat refers to Ottis Gibson as the uglyman Bajan or Hunte President Double ugly but...

Facking hypocrite you are.

See if you can wrap your pea-brain around this: when I deride someone as "President Double-Ugly" or "Coach Uglyman" I insult an individual. When you use "Jamaican" as a pejorative as in "Jamaican Dave" you attack him based on his nationality-as you would his race-and not just as an individual?

Are you too stupid to understand the distinction? evil

That is a rhetorical question-you don't have to answer. Dummy!!!

PS- You are also a damn liar! I have never referred to Gibson as "uglyman Bajan" !

You damn liar...ask Admin to retrieve your post.

I have quoted this post before in relation to a discussion in which you called coach Gibson uglyman bajan. Most posters here will remember this...and you defended it.

BTW, is it not an epithet in much the same way as was used by Drapsey...can't you use an epithet or slur to defame and demogouge one person?

Facking hypocrite.

jacksprat 2015-08-10 13:48:24

I repeat: YOU ARE A SHAMELESS A LIAR!!

You are good at retrieving old posts so prove to me that you are not a LIAR!

I challenge you to find even one where I refer to anyone as Uglyman Bajan - ONE!!

I am waiting....LIAR!!!

I have quoted this post before...most persons here will remember you called coach Gibson Uglyman.

And many here were offended by it. but you defended your comment till your last drop of blood, while gritting your teeth like a pitbull.

So, is it not a slur to refer to coach Gibson as ugly?

Carry on.

Not going to waste my time.

Nice discussion though...recorded for posterity.

You have been royally exposed.

Brother, are you for one moment doubting that de Courtesy has this post? I have quoted it here before.

There was a lengthy discussion here on his ugly comment.

He used a slur to describe coach Gibson. This is a fact.
surprised

He is a clown and a LIAR!

Notice when challenged to defend his LIE how he ran away?

I challenge him again to produce the post-which he claims to have- of me calling anyone "Uglyman Bajan"

If I called him STUPID, LYING COURTESY,as would be fitting, please explain to him-Slowly- that it would be a personal insult and not a slur on his race, religion, nationality, gender, etc!!!

Some of us have good memories.

Deny on this MB that you never used a slur to describe coach Gibson. I dare you.

Put your money where your ass is.

So you have attempted to water it down or segment it by admitting now that you have insulted coach Gibson personally by calling him ugly and this does not fall under the domain of a slur?

And there must be in your words "race, religion, nationality, gender, etc!!!" to constitute a slur. Allyuh good we!

Is that it?

And you even compounded the lie by claiming to have some post which, clearly, you could not have! So now you are trying to use diversionary tactics

PS- You are still a Damn Liar! I have never referred to Gibson as "uglyman Bajan"

In reply to jacksprat

Brother, you are deceitful.

So including "jamaican" in Drapsey's post is what infuriated you and made it a slur?

Without the use of Jamaican it would not have been a slur? It would have been all hunky dory.

I have already argued that the slur was made by the use of the word "slimy" and not the collective use of "slimy jamaican." Dave Cameron just so happens to be a Jamaican...had Drapsey said "Jamaican Dave" wouldn't it not have been appropriate?

So by your reasoning, the use of "slimy Dave" would not have been a slur?

Why don't you get it...a slur is a slur racial or otherwise.

Jacksprat your beef is with the use of the word "Jamaican". So for you, the collective use of "slimy jamaican Dave" takes on new and more important meaning than calling coach Gibson ugly.

You "slimy jamaican Jacksprat".

This seems to be a popular formulation on this MB.

Please remind me,when did "Jamaican" become an epithet?

Ever since the word Slimy is no longer considered one.

Anyway, I deserve all that's coming. Blame it on my overuse of sarcasm which in this case is wasted on a few.
