Soon, the Committee appointed by Caricom to examine the structure of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will complete its mission and deliver its report and recommendations to the Prime Ministers’ Sub-Committee on Cricket.

Will the WICB welcome this report and embrace its recommendations, or will it treat it like the Patterson and Wilkins reports? Who knows? Only time will tell. One wonders if the WICB really understands the impact of design and structure on organisational performance.

No matter how good people are they will not perform well if the organisation in which they are working is badly designed. Organisations usually get the behaviour that they design. If an organisation is not doing well its leaders should look closely at its processes, systems and structure. If people in the organisation repeatedly resist change, they are working in an environment that undervalues learning, growth and development. And if members are not good team players, they are working in a structure designed for individual performance.

Whatever the Board’s response to the Committee’s report, let us hope that commonsense prevails. We must remember though that in general, when we are dealing with human beings we are not dealing with creatures of logic; we are dealing with creatures of habit, emotions and self-interest; creatures who crave status, recognition and power.

In this Forum I have stated what Webster has stated, for years in this Forum . I am not optimistic that there are going to be any seriously needed changes .

Especially when One examines the Track Record of those in the governance of Cricket in the Region . They commissioned , the following Reports ;THE LUCKY REPORT ; THE PATTERSON REPORT ; THE WILKIN REPORT
and swiftly discarded them .

WHEN ASKED BY THE REGIONAL

GOVERNMENTS , TO IMPLEMENT THE

RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PATTERSON

REPORT , THEY BLUNTLY REFUSED AND

THEN COMMISSIONED THE WILKIN REPORT ;

WHICH THEY ALSO SWIFTLY REJECTED .


I cite the above to buttress the following points . First , THEY are
going to reject the Report that the
Regional Governments commissioned .

The main reason why all past & future
Reports are going to be rejected is
simple :

THEY LOVE THE CURRENT STRUCTURE ,IT

ALLOWS THEM TO DO WHAT THEY WANT ;

AND ARE ANSWERABLE TO NO ONE IN THE

WORLD .



THEY ARE ALSO AFRAID THAT THEIR POWER

WILL BE DILUTED . THESE TWO THINGS

ARE THE MAIN REASONS WHY ALL REPORTS

HAVE BEEN DEEP SIXED .


Let me once again state in this Forum , unless there are very serious changes at ALL LEVELS in Cricket in the Region , Cricket in the Region is going to be like the Dinosaurs , extinct .

My take is that there must be a serious & complete change in the Structure & Management in Cricket in this Region .

I would like Former Great Cricketers in
the governance of EVERYTHING pertaining to Cricket . They will be in charge of
the Cricket Department .

They must have absolutely no interference from any
other Department , which will be the
Administrative Department , President , V.P ; Treasurer , Asst. Treasurer ; Secretary , Asst. Secretary ; A legal
Team ; A promotional & PRO Team etc .

The President & the Head of the Cricket Department will attend all
International Meetings on behalf of the Entity representing the Region .

I have not yet fully fleshed out the
whole Entity , that is going to deal with Cricket at the Regional Level .
But what I have stated above , from my perspective is unchangeable .

BTW , the structure of the Regional Boards must also be revamped , but first WE must deal with top .

I get the point you have made in your last paragraph ; its reflects the status of ethics in the Region .

Yet WE wonder why Cricket in the Region has regressed . Jack Warner is still
free to roam about in Trinidad ; those
who engineered the CLICO Fiasco , are as free as Birds , these things are tolerated in the Region .

The WICB's behaviour in the India Tour Sag was Reckless , yet I have not heard ONE popular Cricket Journalists say a word about this .

I hold no brief for the Players , but
the fact is that the Players aint have the power to call off any freaking Tour .

For their cleverness , both Cameron &
Hinds were reelected unopposed ; another example of how low Ethics in the Region has sunk .

As I stated elsewhere in this all Coups need & seek legitimacy , Cameron , the WICB & Hinds got that
when they hosted a Dinner for former great Players in Jamaica recently .

Your compatriots claim that I ranting ,
but dem never attended the Town Hall Meeting that was held in Barbados .

There must be some reason why in both Barbados & Jamaica the attendance was poor . The fact that the President of the WICB is from Jamaica , and the attendance at the Town Hall Meeting there was unsatisfactory .

Perhaps the situation with Heaven , may have played a role in the poor attendance . At least when the Meeting was held in Dominica , my understanding is that it was well attended , the presence of Nanthan , the Vice President of the WICB who is from Dominica no doubt helped .
