West Indies Test captain Denesh Ramdin said it was good to be respected and included in a West Indies team management meeting in Barbados this week.

The wicketkeeper/batsman was summoned to Barbados to meet with president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Dave Cameron, coach Phil Simmons, cricket operations manager Richard Pybus, chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd, manager Richie Richardson and limited overs captain Jason Holder, on Wednesday.

Ramdin said the meeting went well. “Basically we reviewed the last two tours at home. The guys all made their contributions and it was good to be included because I was able to make an input in the plans going forward. “As West Indies captain when you are invited to a meeting like this, is shows respect and I appreciated being there and making my contribution.”

Two things. Was Jason Holder summoned to the meeting as well, or was he simply invited? And why was the T20 captain neither summoned nor invited?

Probably an indication that outside of the World Cup, T20 is not important/relevant in the grand scheme of things.

I read the article and know Holder was in attendance. There's been a lot of talk lately about Ramdin being summoned. I'm wondering whether the other captain in attendance was summoned or simply invited.

And the disrespect of Darren Sammy continues.

You are absolutely Right . They are now doing small things that they have never done before . All this is to try and
prevent that the Structure is never ever changed , and their power & grip
remains undiluted .

They will do everything & anything to ensure that they survive , regardless
of the state of Cricket in the Region & in the World . The rise of Bangladesh & Zimbabwe has them very nervous .

The fact that they have condescended
to have Town Hall Meetings & meet with the Regional Governments after
swiftly rejecting the Regional Governments request to implement the changes recommended by the Patterson Report is rather telling .

They are fighting very hard to ensure that everything remains the same . I
am reminded of the Calypso :

POINT, as you know, I rarely disagree with the issues you raise on this board as it pertains to WI cricket but I do not get the reasoning behind the following statement

What are you trying to say, that they should not do anything?

The idea of Town Hall meetings came from the fans and they put that into motion.

The idea of engaging and involving the captains in the decision making process came from the captains themselves and that started with this meeting in Barbados.

As you know, the practice before this was to pick 15 players and then name a captain from those 15.

The idea of exploring the commercial angle to West Indies cricket did not come from the directors yet they are in favour of going that route.

To quote you again

The gist of what I stated is that the
people in the governance of Cricket in the Region will do any & everything to ensure that the current Structure of Cricket in the Region remains as it currently is .

This is why they rejected the Lucky Report ; the Patterson Report ; & the Wilkin Report ; they are afraid that
Structural Changes are going to dilute their Power & Grip on Cricket in the Region .

These small things that they are doing are because they are now under the microscope , if they were not under the microscope they would not , in my opinion " summoned " Ramdin to a meeting .

In essence they could have told Lloyd to deliver their message to Ramdin . They wanted to present a different image of themselves .

However Tigers cannot change their Stripes , so I do not think that Ramdin is out of the Woods yet . He may be treated with Respect in this instance .

The question however is, will Ramdin be treated with respect all the Time . Obviously Time will inform us regarding that .

I understand what you are trying to say but the logic is contradictory.

The alternative to not doing "small things" (making changes) is not doing anything at all.

I was having a drink with some Crucians last week on a visit to their lovely island and the subject of cricket came up.

One of them surprised me when they made reference to the sobriquet you are known by.

Perhaps he reads this Forum . BTW , my reference to small things was regarding to inviting Ramdin to a Meeting .

I have not heard , or read about the WICB doing that before . My take , It
is very rare that the People in the WICB condescend to meet with the Captain of the Team .

Generally , that role has been delegated to the Selectors . Perhaps
they wanted to give Ramdin a message
personally .

to get Tax Payers money from the Regional Governments .

Also the sudden rush to condescend having Public Town Hall Meetings was not only unprecedented ; but contrary to the WICB's Modus Operandi .

Please bear in mind that the people in the WCB are their own Bosses , they are not answerable to the Regional Governments nor the General Public in the Region .

Therefore , in my opinion , something is up ; because that surely aint the WICB's Style . But sooner or later WE
will know what all this is about . My
take is that they want to have access to Taxpayers Money .

That is why they decided to do these things which were abnormal for them to do . Remember ; they are not answerable to any one in the World .
The Regional Governments do not pay their Salaries .

I believe that the joint Commission
authorized by the WICB & the Regional
is going to recommend very superficial changes to the modus Operandi of the WICB , and the Regional Governments will give them Taxpayers Money , But nothing will be changed .

Neither the current Structure , nor their power & grip on Cricket in the Region will be changed ; this is going to be just another Grand Charade .

I thought of that meeting and what Ramdin said when I saw he was replaced as captain. Was not expecting him to be replaced after that.

If they call you to tell you that you
are no longer the Captain , that cannot be deemed as showing Respect . Good

Trap was set and ramdin fell into it voluntarily. After being in WI cricket for so long if he does not understand the modus operandi he deserves all he has got

Well the WICB to its credit has come a long way. At least this time they had the courtesy to inform Ramdin beforehand.

Someone once said that Rohan Kanhai only learned that he was sacked as captain when he heard about it on the BBC news!
