WI National Anthem
In reply to doosra
David rudder is a boss...Nice melody and all....
but WI national anthem???? Just an embarrassing hypocritical farce....just like current WI cricket
I agree, they should change it. They can use one of those Spouge classics instead!
David Rudder tune "Rally round the West Indies" has always been the WI anthem.
BTW same man who sing "Trini to de bone".. A lyrical master
Dey should change it to a spouge "classic" in trute.
More representative of the WI team
The original anthem of the WI is now Tnt's national song. It was written for the defunct Federation. 'Forged from the love of Liberty, in the fire of hope and prayer. With boundless faith in our destiny we solumnly declare. Side by side we stand, islands of the blue Caribbean sea......'

As far as I know there is no WI national anthem.
There's however a WI cricket team anthem. .
Its not a national anthem as it is not for a country. It is more or less what is called a "fight song"

^ This.
It's probably too late, but a proper anthem should have been composed accordingly. With all due respect to the David Rudder song, which is brilliant, the lyrics aren't really what you'd want in an anthem.
Nothing is wrong with it , its a fighting song and song that tries to evoke a higher power . I my self get a bit wet in the eyes when its played with our team on the field or on the tele .
It suits the purpose .
In the fires of hope and prayer
With boundless faith in our destiny
We solemnly declare:
Side by side we stand
Islands of the blue Caribbean sea,
This our native land
We pledge our lives to thee.
Here every creed and race find an equal place,
And may God bless our nation
Here every creed and race find an equal place,
And may God bless our nation.
This indeed was the anthem for the failed West Indies Federation .

According to the Fire In Babylon documentary the all-conquering WI sides worked hard to dispel the image of WI cricketers as "calypso cricketers" and to prove themselves as serious professionals. Now just a few years later, the guardians of WI cricket have allowed the situation to develop where the enduring images beamed on TVs around the world are of WI cricketers standing at attention and singing a crap calypso.
