ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The Directors of the West Indies Cricket Board gathered for a regularly-scheduled, quarterly meeting of its Directors last Saturday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground here.

The following were the key reports received and decisions taken:

Benefit Match for Dominica

A Benefit Match between a WICB President’s Invitational XI and UWI Vice Chancellor’s Invitational XI is being organised to raise funds for the people of Dominica who suffered catastrophic damage from the passage of Tropical Storm Erika and continue to be affected by heavy rainfall. All proceeds from the match will be sent to the Government of Dominica.

The proposed date is Saturday, September 26, at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The teams will be drawn from the West Indies team preparing for the Tour of Sri Lanka and a combination of legends, prominent people and other sports personalities. It is expected to be telecast and a telethon will form part of the activities.

New Commercial Strategy for West Indies Cricket

The Directors agreed to a new commercial strategy which they hope will improve revenue inflows. The presentation was done by sports marketing agency, Pitch International.

Pitch International have identified four strategic objectives:

1. Increase revenue,

2. Create a clear commercial identity for West Indies cricket,

3. Create a cost-effective marketing platform that delivers for commercial partners, and

4. Establishment of a strong digital platform.

The WICB plans to roll out elements of the new commercial strategy in the coming months.

I find it very interesting that since
the Indian Saga , the WICB has been in
a hive of activity . It seems that
the aftermath of the Tour to India has
transformed the people in the WICB .

First they condescended to talk to
the Regional Governments , yes condescended , because they bluntly refused to implement the recommendations the Patterson Report
suggested .

Then wonder of Wonders , they decided
for the first time in its History to hold Public Town Hall Meetings .

But they were not done yet , They decided to have Camps for Batsmen &
Bowlers . Then they decided to have more than one Warm up match in Sri Lanka .

Now we have the New Commercial Strategy for West Indies Cricket . WOW . Perhaps if all these things were done some time ago , it is very possible that Our Players & Team would not today be Bottom Dwellers in the longer versions of the game .

ALL this hive of activity reminds me of the adage :

" CLOSING THE STABLE AFTER

THE HORSE HAS BOLTED " .

Dude you seem never to be satisfied hey?
They weren't doing nothing you complained, now they doing something, which you said you've mentioned you still complaining
I'll take this which they are doing, plus anything else as a positive step
But right now it's just words on a piece of paper. Let's see the words be put into action, but I'm sure you still will be complaining. Cause once there's an issue you seem very good at finding a way to complain about it.

You obviously missed the point I am making , so let me break it down for you .

If what the WICB is now doing was done years ago , Our Players & Team would not now be Bottom Dwellers in the longer versions of the game .

In essence the proposed lawsuit by the BCCI is the catalyst that has spawned this sudden activity by the
WICB . My take is that it is to try saving themselves .

I expect that from now on WE can expect
Monthly Bulletins from the WICB . In essence , I am hoping that this is just the start of monthly bulletins from the WICB .

It should be obvious to all except those who are mentally challenged , that if some of what is being done now by the WICB was done years ago Our Players and Team would not now be Bottom Dwellers in the longer versions of the game .
IT IS THAT FREAKING SIMPLE .

So then the Idiots here who are whining because I have pointed out this fact , are attempting to defend the Indefensible . The problem is that it aint working .

For years the standard response was
that they did not have any money , to have Camps of more than 1 week duration , But now suddenly , Damocles sword in the shape of a 42 million dollars lawsuit ; hanging over their heads ; the people in the WICB are indulging in hyper activity , they have found money to
have Camps , Hire an English Firm to
advise them on Commercial Strategy .

ALL I am saying is that the perpetual
excuse of saying that they had no money to do what needs to be done was untrue ; or perhaps they have recently won the Lotto .
