ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board has learnt of the comments from Head Coach of the West Indies team Phil Simmons in the print and electronic media which appear to question the legitimacy of the selection process of the One-day International squad for the Tour of Sri Lanka. As a result, the Management of the WICB has taken action to suspend the Head Coach, pending an investigation into the issue.
The Head Coach will not now travel with the team on the Tour of Sri Lanka. In the meantime, the Management has advised that the coaching responsibilities of the Head Coach will pass to Eldine Baptiste, a member of the WICB Selection Panel, until the matter is cleared up. Baptiste was already a member of the original tour party to Sri Lanka as the “selector-on-tour”.

Well I congratulate Simmonds for speaking up, although it looks like he might lose his job, maybe something good might happen because of this exposure of how the Board in being run.

Simmons would not even be allowed to keep his job even if it was a fry fish shop

Simmons should have quit from the time he found out that he can't get the players he want to have the strongest team possible. Why waste time with players you know won't bring victory.

The only clearing up is the West Indies Board of Governors to convene and haul the WICB to answer for what Simmonds is accusing them of.
It is time the TTCB flex some muscle. Bassarath have none but the new sports Minister should make some real noise.

Perhaps the next time the WICB go looking for a Head Coach they should issue the following statement:
"We the WICB, have communist proclivities and do not believe in democracy so only 'Yes Men' will be considered. All other candidates need not apply."
