Former West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Ken Gordon has called on the Board to be magnaminous and allow suspended coach Phil Simmons to be with the team on its current tour of Sri Lanka.

Admitting that Simmons’ suspension was the right thing for the WICB to do, Gordon said it would be a tremendous morale booster if Simmons was allowed to be with the team in a support or advisory capacity. “We desperately need one.”

Simmons recently criticised the board for what he described as “interference from outside” which led to the omission of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from the team on tour in Sri Lanka. He was subsequently suspended.

Gordon said Simmons’ criticism has gained wide support. “The events which followed are ironic for the board and its current president who have lost the respect of the cricketing public, have in recent times failed to take action for indisciplined behavior, from Chris Gayle on more than one occasion, conducted itself in an unprincipled and dishonest manner in its handling of the Patterson Report, demonstrated its inability to give responsible leadership …. by pussyfooting when firm and decisive action was required against the West Indian team for walking off the field in India. And now…. this board suspends Simmons for speaking out of turn.”

“The really terrible irony about the current situation is that suspending Simmons was the right thing to do. Disciplinary action was required in the circumstances.”

Its a good argument from Gordon as he is an expert on 'interference'. Taking Simmons would be a mature bridge to a reconciliation.

His further comments are interesting.

So much has gone wrong with West Indies cricket-including during and after his tenure-yet he suddenly finds his voice when one of his countrymen finds himself in the cross hairs.

Did Gordon have anything to say when the current president re-tweeted negative comments about Gayle; or when Board member revealed the Board's agenda of "rooting Samuels & Gayle our of West Indies cricket" ?

By the way, what 'indiscipline" was Gayle guilty of except for expressing his honest opinion, a la Simmons-"speaking of of turn" as Gordon would call it-and for this he was once punished with a de facto suspension of 18 months without the benefit of being taken before the Disciplinary Committee.

Totally disagree with Gordon.
Phil is the coach. Magnanimity is not a factor .

Simmons would be dumb toaccept any such act.

Had he done his job then there would be systems in place to prevent these things or at least hold the people who are doing wrong accountable.

I am surprised how anachronistic and Elizabethan most a you thinking is.

The proposition/premise that most a you putting forth is “if this was in any other corporate situation Simmons would be out of a job”…..that’s the premise being put forward……well guess what – this is not any other corporation – this is WICB …….and in deductive reasoning – if the premise is false – then there is no possible way the conclusion “Simmons would be fired” can be true……..so now – why should Simmons be fired?
