HEADLINE: Simmons asks for more time

CaribbeanCricket.com Oct 4, 2015, 9:35:59 AM

Suspended West Indies cricket coach Phil Simmons was due to meet with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) today in Antigua to answer to them over his public outburst over the exclusion of Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo but the meeting will not come off as planned.

Guardian Media understands that Simmons has asked for some time before facing the WICB appointed Human Resource committee. Simmons was suspended last Monday after he alleged that there was “outside interference” in the selection process when it came to Bravo and Pollard.

Simmons, who is currently in England, made the comments at the end of the West Indies cricket team camp in Barbados last week. He said that “outside interference” in the selection process seems to have kept out the duo because he and chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd both wanted the two Red Force players back into the One Day International (ODI) team for the series of Sri Lanka. He added that Lloyd and himself were outvoted 3-2 by the other selectors, Courtney Walsh, Courtney Browne and Eldine Baptiste.

Simmons I hope that you can get back
your Job in Ireland , my take is that
you made a mistake in applying for the
Job in the Region .

THEY NEEDED YOU MORE THAN YOU NEEDED

THEM . THAT IS WHY THE ONUS WAS ON

YOU TO GET EVERYTHING YOU WANTED IN

YOUR CONTRACT . WITH THE ADVICE OF

CONTRACT LAWYER .

IF THAT DID NOT HAPPEN THE ONUS WAS

ON SIMMONS TO WALK AWAY .

I sincerely hope that he gets back his job in Ireland ; that he has learned the fact that , all that glitters is likely to be Fools Gold .

You seem to be implying that I had a problem with Simmons fighting for the Team he wants . I do not have a problem with that .

The point I am making is that Simmons in his Contract should have had a clause stating that there would be no
interference in his decisions to select Players .

Also in the event that happened , then his contract would be null & void . This is what he should have had in his Contract . In essence an escape Clause .

Let me once again state this fact ; the WICBC needed Simmons more than HE
needed the WICB . WHY ???
Simmons did very well for Ireland , he was in a position to get anything he wanted in Ireland .

The WICBC on the other hand had garnered Bad Publicity , due to its cancellation of the India Tour ; and
also being sued for 42 million dollars by the BCCI .

Now these are facts , they aint something I dreamed up . This is precisely why I insist that in the
Negotiations Simmons had the upper hand .

That being the case , he needed to get everything that he wanted written into his Contract . This Brouhaha would not have occurred if in his contract there was a Clause regarding interference .

There is a saying "cut and run or stay and bun", you seems to be implementing the cut and run part on this thread. I would say if we need change we need some sort of confrontation from within the WICB, Which Simmonds is doing at the moment and not in the correct way. I would wish more people from within would see the trajection and join him and getting change.

Simmons ask for more time as he prepares to make an exit in the middle of the night.
lol lol
Then you can all argue how great a coach he was and would have been, in lifting WI to the top after 20 yrs, if he only had gotten his 2 mediocre Trini's, who cares not about WI cricket.

First let me Welcome you to this Forum . I am in neither of the Camps that you are talking about .

In the WICB , those with the Power always win . In my opinion , with the
Blessing of most of the Regional Cricket Boards , Cameron was elevated
to being the Supreme Emperor in the
WICBC .

In essence Cameron now has more Power
than previous Presidents of the WICBC
He was rewarded with that power , when He & Hinds , engineered a Coup
that made WIPA a part of the WICBC .

It is this Coup , that would have made Machiavelli blush , that propelled Cameron to become the Supreme Emperor .

I understand your point of view , but in the current climate in the WICBC ,
THAT AINT GOING TO WORK . I have been
commenting in this Forum for over a
Decade , calling for a total Restructuring of the Structure in the
Region .

Despite the Lucky Report ; the Patterson Report & the Wilkin Report
absolutely nothing has been done , despite these Reports that the WICBC itself Commissioned .

My take is that they do not intend to ever change the current Structure ,
because they are afraid they will lose some of their power , and that to them , must never happen .

The reason why the WICBC is perpetually in the Public Eye for the wrong reasons ; is due to the fact that apart from its Structural Issues
its Members have not yet recognized the fact that Cricket is a Very Serious Business that demands that the Business of Cricket be taken very seriously .

This is why currently there is a serious lack of Business Acumen ;
Arrogance ; Incompetence ; and Animosity pervades the WICBC . There
is no recognition that continuously
Lurching from Crisis to Crisis is
definitely damaging its propensity to
get Financial Sponsors .

In this Sad & Sorry Situation , the
truth is that the WICBC states that
it is a private Entity . Its Members
are their own Bosses ; and the ICC
bluntly refuses to make them perform better .
