ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board is excited to announce that the prize money pool for the 2015-16 Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament has received a significant boost, jumping from just over US $30,000 to more than US $120,000.

The R4Day opened last Friday and the first round concluded on Monday with Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, Barbados Pride and reigning champions Guyana Jaguars clinching conclusive victories.

In addition to the usual Player-of-the-Match and season-ending awards, teams in each round will now receive US $3,000 for each outright victory under the new pay structure for the Tournament.

“We are sure that the increase in prize money will encourage the players to play more purposefully and we hope will really help to build the competitive environment in the Tournament,” said Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, Michael Muirhead.

“We ultimately want as many players as possible fighting for the 11 starting spots in the West Indies Test team, and the WICB is committed to doing all that we can to encourage robust performances from our players and we believe this new cash prize incentive is one way to achieve this.”

They better off redirecting that cash to fans as an incentive to come to the matches

POINT Nov 10, 2015, 7:11:22 AM

It really aint about how much cash incentives is given . It is about the fact that the standard of Cricket in the Region is PISS POOR . It is imperative that this is addressed immediately .

To the doubting Thomases , the matches
against England ; Australia & now Sri Lanka have proved the point I am making ; Beyond the shadow of any doubt . Frankly it would have been better taking that money and having a serious Camp for the 22 best Players in the Region ; in my opinion .

There is no dispute that Bangladesh in the longer formats of the game , has surged passed our Team . What the Hell is being done to make our Players fully competitive in the International Cricket Arena .

My take is that this is just a ploy to get the Regional Governments off their back . I hope the Regional Governments do not buy into this scheme . Because Everything the WICBC does has ulterior motives ; all geared to survival of the WICBC in its present State .

Word is that they haven't announced it yet because chanderpaul launch a protest saying even though he didn't actually cry in public....his tantrum over not getting a diplomatic passport and asked if he was Guyanese in Guyana was more effective and the award should be named after him.

Laugh now... Cry later...

Good move by the WICB to u[p the prize pay for players but they sorely lack in the marketing area to get fans to the game. Here are a couple ideas to bring fans to the game:

Day/night fixtures
Hire a DJ/ Entertainer on the weekends
Raffle out cash and other prizes.
Prize for catches in the audience.

Laugh now... Cry later...

Dem man been laughing since Ambi stop playing for Leewards

What's more concerning is that outside of Runako Morton and Kieran Powell...MAYBE Gavin Tonge with a shove...and even they weren't "fixtures" on the team....there really hasn't been a player from Leewards that has emerged to truly merit any sort of permanent place on a WI team. And that doesn't appear to be changing any time soon.
