Phil Simmons has been reinstated as West Indies' coach by the WICB. Simmons was suspended as coach in September after he had expressed his unhappiness with the ODI squad selected for the Sri Lanka tour. His reinstatement, the WICB said in a statement, was "conditioned upon" two criteria: "issuance to him of a letter of reprimand for his inappropriate public comments", and his "making a public apology to the WICB and persons whom he may have offended".

The WICB said it will, however, also investigate the allegations made by Simmons, and take action as required against any parties found guilty.

Simmo is back...again

Did they really say this?.........so the man may have been punished for making a legitimate claim about interference in team selection process - its like the police giving someone a ticket for reporting an accident – then decide to check if the report was true.

In reply to Kay... at times some of these fellows have batted, mark you for some it is one innings, as if they can bat. So I say they have the mechanics, however, for example, the way Ramdin keeps getting out, this suggest something mental to me.

Lets see what happens

Are you serious? You sound as if you have been drinking the WIBC's tainted wine and singing from its Hymnal of Delusionrolleyes

We need to get some perspective!

Check that lineup from 40 years ago and compare it to this:

Rowe was already a test immortal 4-5 centuries-including a triple to his name;

Fredericks & Lloyd were seasoned campaigners;

Roberts was already a terror on the County circuit;

Greenidge had already made 97 & a century on debut a year earlier;

Richards was already a test centurion from a year earlier as well;

Murray, a veteran, had made his debut under Frank Worrell a decade earlier;

Gibbs had 20 years test experience under his belt and was on his way out;

Julien, Boyce & Holder were veterans.

Michael Holding was the only unproven member of the squad but had shown enough promise since U19 days to warrant optimism.

Are Samuels & Bravo-the leading lights-anywhere as good as Kallicharan & Rowe?

Is Taylor as good as Roberts was then?

Is Shai Hope supposed to be the next Richards?

This is still a collection of less than mediocre players taht was just white washed by the rebuilding SL and demolished earlier this year on home soil by this very Australia team.

West Indies in Australia 1975-76 - Test Averages

and in addition...even tho we got 5-1 cutaass...we didn't lie down and die like wimps...the series was closer than the 5-1 margin indicated

Lloyd made 2 tons and 2x50s...Fredericks 1 ton and 1x50, Richards 1 ton and 2x50s, Rowe 1 ton and 1x50, Kallicharan 1 ton and 3x50s...Deryck Murray made 4x50s....even Boyce made 2x50s...Only batsman Greenidge completely failed ....a total 15x50s were scored...Ozzies made 11 tons ( 2 batsmen made 3 tons each) and 11 x50s

would an analysis of the "standard" of those you mention with those of today shed some light.

Was their FC averages as poor as these?

IVA Richards started playing FC cricket for Combined Islands in January 1972. He made his WI test debut in November 1974 against India. In May 1974 he made his English County Cricket FC debut.

Prior to his test debut, he played 18 FC matches in 2 years in WI domestic cricket and 20 FC matches in 4 months in English County Cricket.

He played a total of 69 FC innings from the time of his FC debut to the time of his test debut.

His overall FC batting average prior to his test debut was 30.91 with 2 centuries. Both centuries were made in England

His FC batting average in WI domestic FC competiton (Shell Shield) prior to his test debut was 27.97

Jermaine Blackwood's FC batting average after 39 FC matches (72 innings) is 35.57

Chandrika's is 26.58

Shai Hope's is 30.09

None of them play anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Hope is not a TEST batsman yet...why take him to a hard tour like OZ...let him stay home and build on his EARLY FC career....he will be irreversibly scarred if the selectors try to force ripe him...and he continues to fail

Nattyforever asked you this:

would an analysis of the "standard" of those you mention with those of today shed some light.
Was their FC averages as poor as these?

And you answered with this:

IVA Richards started playing FC cricket for Combined Islands in January 1972. He made his WI test debut in November 1974 against India. In May 1974 he made his English County Cricket FC debut.

What about the FC & test batting averages of Frederick, Greenidge, Rowe, Kallicharan & Lloyd, et al going into the tour of Australia 40 years ago?

How would you compare the test match pedigrees of allrounders Bernard Julien and Jason Holder going into the respective tours?

To draw a useful analogy between that 1975-76 squad and this 2015-16 squad it would be useful to know their respective averages.

'It is insanity to do the same thing over and over and expect different results' - Einstein.

The WI batsmen were way below even their lowly expectations in the Tests in Lanka. A few experienced batsmen should have been brought back - even if to just let the young batsmen know that they could lose their places for not performing.

The current team was no comparison to the 1975-1976 team - not by a long shot. Paint alone might have found a spot in the 1975 team, because Gordon Greenidge couldn't handle it.

Viv's FC average for the Combined Is was relatively low because he played as a bowling all-rounder and batted way down the order. His outstanding batting talent became evident gradually.

Hysteria and foaming at the mouth. Calm down and steel yourselves for the licks.

We will loose in OZ but we expected this folks. Expect the following:

Some players will improve, some will remain the same, and some will be shocked by the experience.. Only the strong will survive and West Indies Cricket will be better for it.

Cull the weak administrators and players because, 20+ years of failure has zero sensible excuses...

DIEHARD Nov 11, 2015, 12:46:50 PM

Well..I've been thinking, with this squad..best to bite the bullet, and pretend Holder is an all rounder, he's in better form than Ramdin.

So its ridiculous to keep batting Ramdin 7, I dont have much Hope for Hope and Dowrich to make more runs than Holder against the Aussies, so I'm hoping from 6- 8 can give me 150 runs. We should be 200+ before we're 4 wickets down.

Really though, what the hell happened to Taylor's batting? The man has a Test century, which is more than can be said about Deonarine, Hope, Dowrich or Leon Johnson lol lol lol lol

sandisha Nov 11, 2015, 2:27:44 PM

You mean the very same team that lost to Sri Lanka 3 zip? I still cannot understand why Devon Smith is left out while they continue to experiment with Hope. I am not against Hope because I believe he is a player with high promise, but he should be pushing for a middle order pick where he normally bats and gets runs.

Although Rajindra Chandrika just got his first hundred in first class cricket last week, since he is not the first choice opener it would have been better to replace him with fellow Guyanese Narsingh Deonarine, who is an ok middle order batsman, and a good off spinner, especially when one thinks of Samuel's suspicious bowling action. In fact he had scores of 18 and 82 at Perth, in 2009, when Johnson was really hostile.

Selectors need to do their research before they pick a team.

It's not a month. They get to Australia sooner and have a practice game. So really 15 days before they fly out.

I hope they have some conditioning camp in barbados before leaving.

And I hope, someone adds Chanderpaul to the squad before the first test starts.
