HEADLINE: Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor refuse to bowl into the wind
CaribbeanCricket.com

IN a sign of just how diabolical the lack of discipline is in this West Indies outfit, Jason Holder’s fast bowlers told their captain they didn’t want to operate from one end of the ground on day one in Hobart.
Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor had no interest in running up the hill into the breeze from the Derwent River southern end in Thursday’s final session and let their skipper know.
It meant Holder was forced to let the game drift with spinners at a time when the new ball could have been taken and Australian pair Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh were cruising towards the sixth highest partnership in Test history.
Is it any wonder Holder had a DRS brain explosion on Friday, choosing not to review a poor lbw decision when replays showed the ball clearly going over the stumps?
Holder is a 24-year-old captain with zero support.

Some serious allegations there....
1) 'Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor had no interest in running up the hill into the breeze from the Derwent River southern end in Thursdays final session and let their skipper know...I spoke to him last night and he said none of the quicks wanted to bowl from that southern end, Tom Moody said on Fox Sports.'
2) "On Friday, another veteran Marlon Samuels refused to walk in with the bowler, standing with hands in pockets in the field until Australia finally declared."
3) "Holders decision not to review a Peter Siddle ball that hit him above the knee roll yesterday was ridiculous when you consider hes a giant of a man at 2.01 metres and the score was 5-116 with he the last recognised batsman in the line-up chasing 583. Darren Bravos feedback from the other end over Siddles delivery didnt help, and it would be easy to see why Holder simply walked off feeling like a lone soldier deserted by his mates."
Sounds like Holder has lost the dressing room....

I'm finding to hard to believe this is true for no other reason than the staggering indiscipline of it.
But if this is true, neither Roach nor Taylor should play a game for the West Indies from here on and, come to think of it, for their countries either.

Firstly, if this is true - then difficult for Simmons to send them home mid-match.
Secondly, Holder needs to show that HE IS the captain. May be he asked them where they wanted to bowl from and they gave their preference.
If he TOLD them or WANTED them to bowl in to the wind and they didn't, then he needs to show them who is the captain and either drop them for the next game and to be honest - under bowl them in the second innings.
But I am hoping this is a bit of over stating the facts and it was a simple case of Holder asking them their preference - which fast bowler wouldn't say they preferred to bowl with the wind.

preferring to not bowl into the wind is very different from refusing to bowl into the wind.
headline overdramatic much?

If this is true....this is Holder's chance to show who is in charge of the team and drop them from the squad not only fuh de next game but the rest of the series....He should call a meeting and tell dem two PD's dat they will take no further part in de series due to insubordination...bet yuh de rest of the players will start towing de line....

If Taylor & Roach don't want to do something like bowl from a particular end then both or at least one of them should be dropped.

J
erome Taylor, Kemar Roach, Jason Holder - they have all delivered at Test level before. Here they went through the motions. And to paraphrase Dorothy Parker on Katharine Hepburn, it was the gamut of motions from A to B. Amble in with little intent, bowl with no apparent plan, walk back to the mark, repeat. Too many half-volleys, too many on the pads, too many boundary balls. Too many fielders back, too many easy singles. Too many runs, too few efforts to stop them.

We all say players should do what is best for "team"...don't?
We talking about two "brittle" players...
One with a long run-up, the other with lacking pace...
One has to bowl uphill/upwind at a disadvantage while getting whupped...
If I were either, I wouldn't raise my hand to bowl from that end...
That said, did either refuse to bowl downwind/downhill after lunch...on first day with a chance to make-up for earlier whupping...when ball was still hard, 24 overs old?
If report is true, I don't think Taylor and Roach give a damn right now...

I don't support the disrespect but no one with three tests matches should be appointed captain.
Holder is tentative and defensive - he changes the field after nearly every ball not over.
WICB continually creates its own mess
That said - be careful with Murdoch's trash stations - those racists divide and rule very well.

I recall Wes hall relating that playing for Trindad the skipper Joey Carew made him bowl uphill into the wind at Bourda for two hours then gave Charlie Davis the new ball.
That was skipper. I once played a friendly game with Joey as captain. Scary experience. He grew up under the martinet jeff stollmeyer.
If you don't want to bowl into the wind son why not go and rest in the pavilion.?

he never had it.
When you are choosen outside the dressing room by people who will never be in it, its waht happens.
Had Holder been an established cricketer it might have been different. Our Nilly willey selection process and cricket management in general, is a big source of the debacle we face.

Why don't they blame it on Cameron?
Some of these lads are just dying to get a PCL contract!
They are not hungry to play for the West Indies!
If I were the coach and the allegation proved true, both men would be sent home.
Holder also needs to stamp his authority on the game as the leader!
I trust that the report is not true.
Let us lose in dignity, not with the type of purported behavior of the players in question
If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursed lot.
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!

Could not agree with you more ------having said that I do think there had to be some resentment for the neophyte Holder to be thrust down the throats of some veterans players the way it was done you dont have to be a college type to be WI cricket captain.

West Indies was way behind on the over rate that is why the did not take the new ball they still finished 1 over short. Managing the pace of play is a big problem for Holder. So this was about fines for slow over rate.

Are you joking stamp what authority what has he achieved to command respect?.....he didnt earn the job - the job was given to him
honestly if he was that smart he would have turned the position down but I am not blaming Holder, who seem like a genuinely good and intelligent person
.the blame is on Clive Lloyd and the others who made the decision Holder is no Graeme Smith as the current situation has clearly demonstrated It may not be a bad strategy for Holder to feign some type of injury, at least for the next match, but better for the remainder of the tour
Unless this issue can be reconciled in a day or two = the next match may not last 2 days.

Holder has more of the same credentials as Sammy to captain the test team , which amounts to none . Is he more talented we are not sure at this point , no defined separation maybe. Though Sammy developed some bowling in helpful wickets and maybe on on the better slip fields men , but these are not specialist roles .
Different team with proper management maybe . G. Smith was Captain of South Africa at 22 years after 8 tests and 22 ODI's with a string of record and super performances.

...The important thing is that this captain is, most important, a credible cricketer who was able to make the team on merit, and was not just foisted on the team, as captain; a team he couldn't otherwise make on merit.

Taylor, Roach, Ramdin, Bravo, Samuels, to name a few how would you react if you had a boss who bring in someone with 15 days experience , which is the equivalent of 3 five days test matches to tell you how to do what you have been doing for several years? If it had worked I would be the first to say GENIUS MOVE ......but it has failed
