Former American basketball player Charles Barkley once said athletes should never be role models.
Rather, he said, parents should be the ones to set the examples for what they hope their children would turn out to be as adults.

We live in a culture where athletes, singers and actors are set on pedestals and idolised by all and sundry, from the young to the old.

As Barkley, no stranger to controversy or boorish behaviour himself, said then, a person is not a good role model because he can run faster, jump higher and play a sport better than the normal person.
