Last season’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 champions T&T Red Steel will be known as the T&T Knight Riders for this year’s edition of the tournament, which bowls off in June.

CPL insiders revealed that the owners of the T&T Red Steel franchise, who also own the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier league (IPL), have requested a name change for the T&T franchise.

Last year, the T&T Red Steel was bought by Red Chillies Entertainment which is owned by Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, as well as Jay Mehta.

Mmmmmm. And with the Kinfisher invasion of BIM, I wonder whether the Melbourne Renegades have any like interest in the Jamaica CPL Franchise.

The Jamaica Renegades. How fitting!

Well me boy, they taking over.
But that's what money does it buys things
Let's just hope it's just the name that changes
But the brand of cricket played doesn't
I can't take on the IPL brand, but that could be my bias.
Some folks might come and complain about what's going on but many were the same ones saying the CPL can't survive. Well it is.

In my view the new owners have made a mistake. The team is based in Trinidad not India.

I agree with this move. This will make the team and league marketable to the biggest cricket market

If true, it's a stupid move, and only represents a new imperialism. Ironic for a place like India, the former Jewel in the British imperial crown. T&T supporters should reject it. The name of the team ought to represent the team's home, irrespective of the owners.

TnT should retaliate and call Chefette TheFete.

Are not the words "Trinidad and Tobago/T&T" still in the team name "Trindad and Tobago/T&T Knight Riders" and the team based in T&T?

I see no problem with the name change. Actually I don't mind if they move T&T from the name altogether. Wasn't that what people wanted in the first place, because the CPL franchise based in T&T was not a representative T&T team???

Still the T&T brand in T20 cricket is good. So its T&T benefiting from the Knight Riders name and also Knight Riders benefiting from the T&T name.. albeit on a smaller scale due to the large Indian market. This could be good for T&T tourism.

Stop the bellying aching it is his team and he can name it whatever he wants, he can even move its base from TnT, it does not represent the people of Trinidad and Tobago, it is franchise bought and own by an entity, I never like national names or colours either, they should be replaced by city names and team colours Knight Riders POS for example

With oil prices on the floor, T&T on its knees, they have no choice but to do Shahrukh's bidding.

this man man is probably putting a secret first bid on all the talent coming into the IPL from Trinidad. He is probaly also investing in a future Narine, a future Pollard and a future Bravo to play in the IPL
