big mistake to take marlon samules. his slow batting will hurt us BIG TIME

also evin lewis over fletcher

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com

No Carlos Brathwaite.

I guess he's on stand-by to replace the injured ........

Halliwell 2016-01-29 12:04:28

Fletcher over smith? Ok, probably deserves as many chances as Smith I guess

Narine IN
Benny! lol

Enough to reach the finals right there
I like that side

VIX 2016-01-29 12:13:49

Darren B and Gayle to open

positiveg 2016-01-29 12:29:15

Well I think that Narine shouldn't be there yet. He will most likely be called. So Carlos B oveer him.

Slipfeeler 2016-01-29 12:37:28

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com

Based on Selection the team could be:

1. Chris Gayle
2. Lendl Simmons
3. Darren Bravo
4. Dwayne Bravo
5. Kieron Pollard
6. Jason Holder
7. Andre Russell
8. Darren Sammy
9. Ramdin
10. Narine
11. Badree

Unless they decide to play Samuels and drop one of the spinners but that would be too much work load for one spinner or Darren Bravo underperforms during warm up matches.

Arawak 2016-01-29 12:54:05

Darren Sammy will lead

..from the front.

Respect.

That lineup leaves us short a stock fast bowler.

I really don't want to have to rely on Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder, and Darren Sammy to bowl 12 overs.

It is less of an issue if Narine is the Narine of old. But he is not.

Pollard may not make it into the knockout rounds on our lineup.

Slipfeeler 2016-01-29 13:04:34

In reply to nick2020

I understand Taylor is our best seamer but decision has to be made whether to play him or an all-rounder who bowls medium pace, not that Taylor is any novice with a bat. As well as they might play Taylor instead of Narine but can't see them take Narine to sit on the bench.

bobby 2016-01-29 13:13:27

In reply to Slipfeeler

Neither Taylor nor Samuels should have been in this squad.
And Carlos Braithwaite has to be there.

Slipfeeler 2016-01-29 13:26:30

In reply to bobby

I agree that Carlos B. should have been in the squad but the T20 team is more conservative than the test team, which could the reason why they are now ranked #1 in the world. I like Carlos and his time will come and remember that Samuels almost single-handedly gave us the WC. Why do a Shiv on an experience player for youth?

bobby 2016-01-29 13:30:51

In reply to Slipfeeler
The Samuels of 2 years ago is gone. He is disinterested and seems more spaced out than is his norm. He is also lazy and indifferent in the field. Why take the risk when, at least in this form of the game, we have options.

googley 2016-01-29 13:36:51

Narine's actions has been corrected already?! that was quick!

lol

DIEHARD 2016-01-29 14:03:27

Wot de arse is this..Santokie and Rampaul are our two best T-20 fast bowlers, why the obsession with Taylor in all formats..its asinine, and has been proven time amd time again.

I hope they have the good sense to at least not play him.

I suppose Santokie's retired and Rampaul is injured? In which case there's Carlos B and Cotterel..other than that..not much to complain about, Dwayne Smith aging poorly, no tears shed for him though I was always o fan of his from his Test ebut until now.

Darren Bravo has made me a beleiver.

Can Marlon Samuels bowl? If so he maybe plays at 9 or 10, but there's no way I'm batting him at #4. I like Slipfeeler's XI except Holder must bat after Russell and Sammy, sorry.

I fret for this bowling without Santokie/ Rampaul and a remoddeled Narine...we looking at Russell Bravo and Badree carrying the attack, that makes me uncomfortable

santokie retired because of this continued neglect.

only two warm up matches? No warm up series in February? Even in Bangladesh?

what is the wicb doing?

Taylor? Benn? Sammy? Holder?

The team is what it is....and like all WI LO teams, is heavily dependent on all rounders.....Dwayne Bravo, Russell, Holder, Sammy, Pollard. Samuels used to be part of that as well but his bowling issues have cancelled that.

West Indies will live or die with their allrounders.

DIEHARD 2016-01-29 16:48:00

I dont expect Taylor or Benn to make the final XI, and if Benn does it will be at the expense of Badree or Narine.

Sammy and Holder...i don't expect them to carry the bowling..i expect them to chip in...Holder is a bit of an unknown in T20Is.

I meant what i said, i expect the brunt of the bowling, given the squad, and likely make up of the XI...like guys the captain will plan to get 4 overs from every game..Russell, Badree and Dwayne Bravo.

If we banking on Holder....still uncomfort

Taylor

T20Is 19 19 390 529 24 3/6 3/6 22.04 8.13 16.2 0 0 0

Ramapaul
T20Is 23 23 497 705 29 3/16 3/16 24.31 8.51 17.1 0 0 0

Hardly any difference international-wise, and if so, in favour of Taylor... Lower econ, average, SR...though playing 4 less matches.

If to bring Carlos coz he can slap a few out the ground, then yeah...

DIEHARD 2016-01-29 17:00:03

In reply to JahJah

Selective stats picking bredren lol lol

In T-20s where the sample size is larger, Rampaul is better, considering the bigger picture as well, where Jerome Taylor may be our only legit Test pacer, and his propensity to break down..I say leave him at home.

Why bother waste him, where the most he can contribute is 4 overs anyways, plenty other options..leave him at home

JahJah 2016-01-29 17:02:33

In reply to DIEHARD

That picture isn't much different either. Have a look for yourself. You think it's night and day, and it isn't.

Too much fuss over nothing. Then you talk about propensity to break down? DWL

PS: When last Rampaul play cricket?

DIEHARD 2016-01-29 17:06:25

Holder is a bit of an unknown in T20Is.

Perhaps. But Holder was playing for Chennai Super Kings before sammy got an IPL contract.

As for Taylor.....he has to at least start the first couple games IMO. Outside of Narine...who still has to pass a test.....he IS our best bowler.

I expect the lineup to be as follows:

Gayle
Fletcher (if Narine doesn't play)
Darren Bravo
Simmons
Dwayne Bravo
Pollard
Russell
Holder
Sammy (he has to play as captain)
Taylor
Badree

If Narine plays....drop Fletcher, move Simmons to open, and bring in Ramdin

They could also have simmons open with gayle, drop Fletcher & Holder, and bring in samuels & ramdin.

Team would look like this

gayle
simmons
darren bravo
samuels
dwayne bravo
russell
sammy
ramdin
taylor
narine
badree

Badree and sammy upset the balance of the team.

Ridge 2016-01-29 17:08:33

If all these cow lashers get going we can make 250 very match lol

DIEHARD 2016-01-29 17:09:16

To my mind, Rampaul had some issues initially in limited overs that messed up his overall stats, he used to get caned!!

But coming up to what is obviosuly the end of his career....he was our best limited over fast bowling option, and mi nah tek back mi chat.

In T-20s..Rampaul and Santokie are WI best pace options in the last year or two

Ridge 2016-01-29 17:09:41

If Samuels get a knock he will be lucky

JahJah 2016-01-29 17:10:06

At least Taylor has been playing competitive cricket this year. shock confused razz redface

So that's that.

Now onto the Carlos B fascination...

Going down on my knee tonight to pray the selectors dont follow yu and pick Taylor and Samuels..Holder and Pollard for them...Samuels only play if Pollard injured...and that skunt bats 9 or 10..and if he can't bowl...i playing Fletcher instead lol

i posted this previously..but look at Taylors T-20I performances last year..though only two of them

nick2020 2016-01-29 17:13:27

What is the metric that says Taylor in T20 is our best bowler?

JahJah 2016-01-29 17:15:20

In reply to DIEHARD

Wait deh.

You want to look at Taylor's two from last year but not Carlos B's?

JahJah 2016-01-29 17:20:45

In reply to DIEHARD

Santokie still play cricket? Or is he now a filing clerk or something?

imusic 2016-01-29 17:29:25

In reply to DIEHARD

Reasons why Taylor will play

He is our best bowler outside of Narine who still has to pass a test
He is one of 3 specialist bowlers in the squad and arguably the best of the 3...Badree's high T20 ranking notwithstanding

Reasons why Samuels will play

He practically won the T20 world cup final for us in Sri Lanka with that innings
His potential typically overshadows his reality in the minds of selectors and some fans
Cameron will insist he play as "reward" for samuels' loyalty following the India tour cancellation

Cameron not that powerful. Remember he couldn't get Shiv reinstated even after flying him to the game. wink

What test does Narine have to pass ?

Maths or English ?

nick2020 2016-01-29 18:05:11

How come Pollard does not offset the balance of the team but Sammy does?

Specialist fielder?

imusic 2016-01-29 18:27:26

In reply to nick2020

good question. Perhaps better directed at Mumbai Indians, Barbados Pride et al

You were talking about the lineup for WC T20, not Indians or Pride.

imusic 2016-01-29 19:03:45

In reply to nick2020

Compared to sammy (batting average of 16.96, 526 runs from 60 matches)...

Pollard (batting average of 22.13, 664 runs from 45 matches) is a specialist batsman in trute

He aint far off in the bowlling department either....27.18 bowling average compared to sammy's 24.11 and 8.19 econ compared to sammy's 7.21 and virtually dead even in bowling strike rate pollard at 19.9 and sammy at 20

nick2020 2016-01-29 19:40:35

In reply to imusic

Seems disingenuous to use 60 matches. That cannot be a reflection of current form right?

I mean then pollard shitting up de place in the 2012 WC would have had no bearing on our 2014 WC selection process.

imusic 2016-01-29 21:31:25

DIEHARD 2016-01-30 01:21:38

I agree Carlos should be there, but like Holder..a bit of an unknown.

Listen I don't even know if Rampaul is fit and still playing cricket..I'm jus saying one of our two best limited overs pacers
