HEADLINE: Shake-up needed for West Indies cricket, say CARICOM heads

CaribbeanCricket.com Feb 22, 2016, 2:05:24 AM

PLACENCIA, Belize (BGIS) -- Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders are so concerned about the problems facing West Indies cricket, including its governance, that they intend to approach the International Cricket Council (ICC).
This was disclosed by Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart as he spoke on the margins of the 27th inter-sessional conference of heads of government of CARICOM in Placencia, Belize, on Wednesday.
He said that, during the summit, an initiative was agreed that heads of government had to intervene to protect the interests of the people in the region, who patronised West Indies cricket and “who have a vested interest in it”.

Heard the report and PM Mitchell speaking about this this morning
They sound pretty serious to go head to head with WICB.
And one thing they can do is tell the WICB they can't use their stadiums etc. So the WICB now has to thread carefully
Guess we gonna see who's the bully.

My take is that Sir Dennis Byron ,
who is the President of the Caribbean
Court of Justice , He aint a wide
eyed Radical , and has impeccable Qualifications ; which can be gleaned by Googling his name .

Sir Dennis Byron has agreed with the
decision of the Committee that the current WICBC as it is currently Structured be dissolved .

The Committee also stated that there
must be an Interim Committee selected
to govern Cricket in the Region while
there is a Complete Reformation of the existing Structure , with the assistance of Persons who are skilled & proficient in this area .

The CARICOM Committee was at pains to state that they were not casting any aspersions on the current Persons in
the WICBC .

The Committee concentrated mainly on the STRUCTURE OF THE WICBC . As I have stated repeatedly in this Forum ; for many years the People in the WICBC Commissioned some Reports ,
regarding the Structure of Cricket in
the Region .

The WICBC authorized the Lucky Report ; the Patterson Report ; and the Wilkin Report , but the people in the
WICBC rejected all the salient features of these Reports .

Obviously ,if the WICBC had taken on board , the salient features of these Reports ; there probably would be no reason for CARICOM to get involved .

The Mystery however , that the Members of the WICBC need to explain
to ALL & Sundry ,is what is so magnificent in its Current Structure , that is 89 years old ; why it refuses to change it ???

Who represented Jamaica at this CARICOM Committee?

"But what heads [of government] are [saying] is that the standards of corporate governance at the moment are undesirable, and that they have been doing much to undermine the integrity of West Indies cricket, and certainly, are compromising the standards to which we in the Caribbean have grown accustomed,” he stated.

I would say the same about our government and politics!

"But what the people are [saying] is that the standards of politics and governance at the moment are undesirable, and that the people in government have been doing much to undermine the integrity and system of government, and certainly, are compromising the standards to which we in the Caribbean have grown accustomed."

Hostile takeover by the dotties?

Mitchell, though, remained adamant that CARICOM would be resolute in ensuring the report’s recommendations were followed through on.

“The fact that we have said that we will use all options to ensure that the report is implemented, the West Indies Cricket Board can say it is dead but they may not have the wherewithal to ensure that it is dead,” Mitchell stressed.

“If the heads represent the entire population of the region and the heads have stated firmly that this is an issue that concerns the entire … peoples of the region. I don’t know any organisation that represents just a few persons can in fact negate that position of the heads.

“If one does not respect the people in any community in any organisation then you are in fact worthless, as far as we are concerned so I don’t think there is any question that the Heads will ensure that this report – its substance and conclusion – are given teeth and this is precisely what we will be doing.”

He better think again. What their committee came up with in their report is a list of recommendations and not a directive to the WICB since they do not have that mandate.

Recommendations are just that ... not gospel

they getting ready to sink the board. The players themselves stopped taking the board serious. The players are just biding their time.

I think this an excellent move by caricom

seeing that they are going to have the cricket restructured could they go a step further and ask the Commonwealth or UN to restructure the governments in the Caribbean

For the most part they are failed states ,who exist only to line the pockets of the sir doctahs

Evidently You seem blithely unaware of the fact that about 2 years ago , the Regional Governments politely asked the WICBC to implement the changes recommended by the PATTERSON REPORT .

In its usual display of Arrogance ,
the WICBC , totally ignored the
request of the Regional Governments
and immediately commissioned the
Wilkin Report ; which it also swiftly
Rejected .

POINT Feb 22, 2016, 7:53:29 AM

The point I am making that seems to have escaped some ; is that I do not believe that Sir Dennis Byron , in his position as a Lawyer & a Judge would
lend his name & prestige , to a
Commission that frivolously stated
that the current Structure of the
WICBC needs to be dissolved .

It is very interesting that the Apologists for the WICBC in this Post
have said nothing about the fact that
the WICBC Commissioned several Reports regarding the Structure , and
dismissed all the salient features of
those Reports .

The Apologists have also said nothing about the fact that the current
Structure of the WICB has been in place unchanged since 1927 .

As I have stated , in this Forum , had the WICBC implemented the changes
of the Structure , the Members of the
WICBC would not be in the Pickle that
they currently find themselves in .

There is however a distinct difference , which you & others fail to realize .

EVERY 5 YEARS THE GOVERNMENTS IN THE

REGION HAVE TO FACE THE PUBLIC .

THE WICBC DOES NOT HAVE TO DO THAT .

Now this is not a figment of my imagination . The gist of the matter
is that the Populations of the Countries in the Region , is much more than the Population of those who vote for Members of the WICBC .

Governments in the Region are much more scrutinized , and criticized than the WICBC . The General Public , has a say in those who govern them .
The General Public has no direct say in the WICBC .

This is despite of the fact that the
WICBC uses Public Facilities , Grounds ; Airports ; Police ; Firemen
etc ; when it plays International Matches in the Region .

guys on this MB is pointless, the WIC is equal to the Govts and the Govts are the same as the WIC.

For those who don't want to see anything to reform WI cricket are you satisfied with the status quo?

Hasn't our cricket elicited enough derision the world over?

It is often said our cricket reflects West Indian society. Are we content with this abysmal portrayal West Indian psyche?

Who commissioned the Patterson and Wilkin Reports?

Time to put aside this self-serving and insular agendas.

The WICBC has several Active

Asking them to put aside their Insular

What even more ironic is, as woeful as the WICB have been, if we match up the performance of the WICB against some of these governments and CARICOM heads of government personnel, the WICB comes out way ahead. Thats not saying much for the governments around the region. So you can imagine taking recommendations of dissolution from someone whose track record worse dan yours. And they still running their countries. Zero credibility.

lol lol lol

Cannot refute facts. Mr.POINT you are absolutely correct.

The structure was in place for 89 years. Nothing else left to be said.

The lackeys of the WICBC in this Forum
cannot comment on the fact that their Masters have bluntly refused to change
a Structure that has been in existence for 89 freaking years .

The keep harping about the Governments not better than the WICBC
but they do not state that Governments decisions are ventilated & opposed by Opposition Parties . Ultimately in General Elections , it is the People of Countries who are the Final Arbiters .

That aint the case with the WICBC ,so the Fools who are spouting nonsense about Governments being worse than the WICBC bluntly refuse to take this into consideration , due to their Warped thinking .

When Governments Mess up , and the People leave them in power , it is an indication that the Opposition Parties did not make a persuasive case to the People to remove the Governments .

The WICBC is an Entity unto itself ,
when it messes up , and that is frequently , nothing happens , they continue Messing up , they have no Opposition , and they do not have to
face the scrutiny of the General Public .

There is an Ocean of Difference . which their Lackeys in this Forum love to distort , in a vain attempt
to muddy the Waters .

POINT Feb 23, 2016, 1:41:57 PM

This aint about the Regional Governments it is about the fact that the WICBC has stuck with the same Structure for 89 freaking years .,

Stick to the topic , it is about the
WICBC commissioning several Reports and then ignoring the salient Features of those Reports .

So then the question is this :

WHY DID THE WICBC COMMISSION SEVERAL

REPORTS AND THEN BLUNTLY REFUSED TO

IMPLEMENT THE CHANGES RECOMMENDED BY

THESE REPORTS ???

If the LACKEYS of the WICBC cannot
answer , then they need to STFU ,
rather than trying to muddy the Waters by citing extraneous issues that aint germane to the Topic of this Post . Stop indulging in
Obfuscation .
