HEADLINE: DON WEHBY TO HEAD INDEPENDENT TEAM TO REVIEW REPORTS ON GOVERNANCE

CaribbeanCricket.com Mar 6, 2016, 5:46:28 AM

Kingston, JAMAICA - West Indies Cricket Board will be renamed Cricket West Indies shortly. President, Dave Cameron made the official announcement at the just concluded Annual General Meeting and the Board of Directors quarterly meeting, held in Kingston this past Friday and Saturday.

While that name change will be happening, Independent Director, Don Wehby will be leading a team of other independents to include Clifford Reis, Ricky Skerritt and three others to be named, to assess the undone recommendations from the Lucky, Patterson and Wilkin Reports. These Reports have over time made suggestions regarding changes to the WICB and its governance and management structures.
The President noted, “the terms of reference of this team, will focus primarily on the recommendations that have not been implemented and for the team to examine if there is an opportunity to bring anything back to the Territorial Boards and the WICB for adoption by the shareholders.”

Kudos to Cameron!

He has always been open to change with time, but a lot of people here think the WICB is a fry fish shop that one can easily close down, go to bush and come back!

It takes time and is a process - protocol demands it! Too bad, some government heads don't get it!

A facking smoke screen, I will be extremely disappointed if anyone in Caricom falls for this shit. They had time and opportunity before to implement, they are not interested in doing anything, they are simply looking for time. Caricom needs to double down on the threat to deny them the use of the stadiums.

I agree with the sentiments that you have expressed . This is a blatant attempt to white wash the whole matter .

This is precisely why I am advocating that the Regional Governments take Both the ICC & the WICBC to Court , let them all testify under oath regarding their respective Stewardships .

Also summoned to testify in my opinion , would be Justice Lucky , P J Patterson former PM of Jamaica &
Mr. Wilkin Queen Council .

Naturally the Members of the Committee appointed by both CARICOM &
the WICBC must also appear in Court .

Cameron and company must be reading this board and dedding wid laff. I think this move is to appease some of the MB denizens who have been harping on these reports for ages.

The committee is tasked with the mandate to see if there is an opportunity to bring back anything to the shareholders. I'll bet nothing will be found and there will be business as usual. Don't get you hopes up Mr. Point... smile

In reply to Kay

This is not only to appease some of us here but to address on of the recommendations made by the CARICOM Committee to obtain a change manager to implement the changes going forward. One of the things the WICB has rejected outright is the disbanding. of the present board. It is certainly not true that the WICB has not implemented some of the recommendations flowing from these many reports but they say we ain't giving our control of W I cricket just so. I Think Point and others should read and re-read the response given by WICB to the CARICOM Committee and then comment on it.

Here ARE my questions to you and the other Apologists for the WICBC

1. HOW MANY YEARS HAS PASSED SINCE

THE LUCKY REPORT WAS GIVEN TO

THE WICBC ????

2. HOW MANY YEARS HAS PASSED SINCE

THE PATTERSON REPORT WAS GIVEN

TO THE WICBC ????

3 HOW MANY YEARS HAS PASSED SINCE

THE WILKIN REPORT WAS GIVEN TO

THE WICBC ????

Some of us have very short memories or are suffering from Alzheimer's .
The WICBC MUST EXPLAIN , the following :

THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS ON ONE

OCCASION POLITELY ASKED THE WICBC

TO IMPLEMENT THE RECOMMENDATIONS

OF THE PATTERSON REPORT .

My recollection , is that the WICBC
Totally rejected the entreaty of
the Regional Governments . In fact I
am of the opinion that they Snubbed
the Regional Governments .

To show their total disdain of the
Regional Governments they then commissioned the Wilkin Report .

I do recall that prior to the 2007
Cricket World Cup , the WICBC went to the Regional Governments with hat in hand asking the Regional Governments
to use TAXPAYERS MONEY , to assist
the WICB in hosting the 2007 Cricket
World Cup .

The Governments then built New Stadia
refurbished Existing Stadia & Spruced up their Grounds . The 2007 World Cup
was a smashing success from every perspective .

But I guess the BUMS forgot about all that when they decided to snub the
Regional Governments . Now there aint
anyone in the World who can state that what I have written here is a Figment of my Imagination .

Now any reasonable person on reading the above will understand why I am skeptical of Cameron & Co . WE are
simply being foisted with another
Charade by the Worst International
Cricket Board in the Commonwealth , aka , the WICBC .

TAKE BOTH THE ICC &

THE WICBC TO COURT

That in my opinion is the only proper
solution to this Nonsense . The Sooner this is done the Faster & Better off Cricket in the Region will become .

These reports are at least 9 years old and some of the recommendations have been implemented. On they have flatly rejected is to disband the WICB. I understand your skepticism about the willingness of the Cameron lead board to implement any recommendations coming from another report. However, I am also skeptical about any CARICOM lead board to do any better. For example, how come they did not pay into the coffers moneys to facilitate retainer contracts to the players, although they had agreed to that? The suggestion that the ICC and WICB be taken to court seems to be a witch hunt. No financial fraud allegation has so far been laid at their feet.

With all due respect ,the salient I have been making here recently is the
fact that the current Structure that the WICBC is operating under :

IS 89 FREAKING YEARS OLD , CAMERON &

CO MUST EXPLAIN PRECISELY WHAT IS SO

GREAT ABOUT THIS STRUCTURE THAT

FORMED IN 1927 .

That should not be difficult for them
to tell US .

CARICOM has never ever stated that they want to run Cricket in the Region . It has stated that there will be an Interim Entity to govern Cricket in the Region .

CARICOM has also stated that an Entity knowledgeable about the
ramifications of managing & running
a Sports Entity would be employed to
give pertinent advice .

I am fully aware of the fact that Governments are no empowered to run
Cricket Boards .However in this very Forum I have cited the fact that :

ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS , THE

PRESIDENT OF PAKISTAN FIRED THE PCB ;

APPOINTED A CHAIRMAN & AN AD HOC

COMMITTEE TO RUN CRICKET IN PAKISTAN

UNTIL THERE WERE FRESH ELECTIONS FOR

OFFICERS ON THE PCB .

Recently the New Zealand Team was not doing well , the New Zealand Cricket
Board reinvented itself , and New Zealand is once more a Team to be reckoned with .

But not this Lot WE are saddled with
they are still clinging tightly to their 89 years old Structure .

Why should the Regional Governments pay money into an Incompetent Board ;
surely you Jest . As I have already stated in this Post the Regional Governments Took Taxpayers money , to help the Bums Host the 2007 World Cup . You seem oblivious of the fact that
as I have already stated in this Post , that the Regional Governments were
snubbed by the WICBC , when they asked the WICBC to implement the changes recommended by the Patterson Report .

To show their total disdain
and Arrogance , the WICBC then commissioned the Wilkin Report , which it then swiftly rejected .

YOU REALLY EXPECT THAT THE REGIONAL

GOVERNMENTS MUST NOW TURN THE OTHER

CHEEK FOR THE WICBC TO SLAP .

Look I hope that you really are not serious . Cameron & Co got to Go .
Imagine pulling the plug on the Tour to India without even attempting to
meet with the Players in an effort to salvage the Tour .

Worse yet the WICBC left their hosts with a mountain of Debt . These are really not serious People . TV Rights were sold ; Vendors paid the BCCI ,
Hotels were booked etc .

But all that meant absolutely nothing to Cameron & Co so full of themselves
and steeped in Arrogance . Yet despite their abysmal Business Acumen . They are fighting Tooth & Nail to be in the governance of Cricket in the Region .

Please if you can point out where I have stated something that is not factual .

POINT Mar 6, 2016, 2:54:45 PM

In reply to jelfew

I want them both to appear in Court for the following reasons . First is the ICC , an Entity now hijacked by England
Australia & India . They have coerced
the other 7 members to give them the Lions share of the ICC profits . This
is why I call it :

THE INTERNATIONAL CRICKET CABAL .

Now WE currently live in a Global Village , so the ICC cannot claim to be unaware of the Maladministration ;
of the WICBC and IT being in the Spotlight for the wrong reasons ;
which obviously envelops to a certain extent the ICC .

The WICBC has been and is always in the Headlines for various reasons ,
its Arrogance ; Incompetence ; Ineptness ; lack of the ability to
have harmonious relations with the Players . Also its lack of Business
Acumen . I have already cited its reluctance to change its 89 years old
Structure .

As I have already stated , I want
Lucky ; Patterson & Wilkin to also testify . I also want the Members of
the joint Committee formed by both
the Regional Governments & the WICBC to testify . EVERYONE UNDER OATH

In my opinion this is the only acceptable way to get these matters
cleared up . I do not believe that
the ICC & the WICBC , would have the testicular fortitude to ignore the
request of a Court .

Those who fail to attend should be held in Contempt ; because this aint
a trifling matter ; it is very serious .

The WICB structure is not 89 years old. They have added 4 independent non-voting board members, one of which was selected by CARICOM.

The PCB was fired by a dictator and the cricketers are not doing any better on the field of play.

The New Zealanders have reinvented itself and are doing better than before.

The insistence that the WICB disolves itself is not a solution. The Patterson report recommends a 2 tier system which seems to me more cumbersome than what obtains now. However, the WICB needs to go much further in bringing in other stakeholders on the board.

In any event, who orwhat body would select an interim board? It would seem to be CARICOM. Given their track record in how they treat funding etc of the UWI, The Council Of Legal Education and trade disputes among members, I find it hard to be skeptical about any CARICOM lead board.

Trying to get the ICC and the WICB before a court to answer to their stewardship, in the absence of any fraudulent of corrupt action is going to be hard. The changes to the financial compensation to the smaller playing were voted on I believe.

What I have just found out while scrutinizing Mr.Don Wehby via Google
It is very interesting to realize This
fact :

MR. DON WEHBY IS A MEMBER

OF THE KINGSTON CRICKET CLUB

SO ALSO IS MR. DAVE CAMERON &

SO ALSO IS MR WAVELL HINDS .

This is getting CURIOUSER & CURIOUSER
Now this being the case , It is reasonable to speculate whether Mr.Don Wehby will be fully committed
to being impartial in his Duties to be an Independent Arbitrator. But as they say " TIME WILL TELL" .

It is my understanding that currently
Mr. Ricky Skerritt is involved in an important Lawsuit , I mention this because he also is a member of the of
the supposedly Independent Team . The
question then is this ; how much time & energy he is going to devote to this Independent Team ???

Mr. Reis is the Chairman of Banks DIH
This no doubt means that he also has a very busy Schedule . My guess is that the other Members will be in the same position .

The WICBC NEEDS to Publicly state the Names of the other Members of this Independent Panel . If the Public is unaware of the names of the other Members of the Panel , that could possibly not only taint the Report ; but also can be construed as a Stalling Tactic by the WICBC .

The fact is like it or not the
WICBC's Current reputation is in Tatters . The Question is does the
WICBC wish to repair it ; or does it
want it to go further down the Chasm ???

I believe the WICB took far too long to implement many of the recommendations from the Patterson report. The Wilkin report was unnecessary and I can offer no argument to contradict your argument that they snubbed CARICM by requesting the Wilkins report. Indeed the Wilkins report merely re-emphasise the call for the Patterson report to be implemented.

It is true that my posts are postings are not many but I am no apologist for the WICB. It is probably the first time that I have engaged in a lengthy exchange with any poster because POINT has stuck to the substance of his argument without resorting to belittling anyone (except the WICB). I have been able to have a good exchange with you.

Frankly speaking, I would like to see the dismantling of the WICB as it now exists because there are too many flaws in its operation. CAROCOM cannot and should not be ignored because it represents the people of the region. What CARICOM says must have some weight on any organisation in the region. What I would like to see some more said about the relationship between and the ICC and any interim board that may be put in place by CARICOM.

It is quite possible you may not have read what I stated several times in
this Forum . Some time ago , I decided
to see the formations of International Cricket Boards .

I found out that on 4 separate occasions , the President of Pakistan
fired the Pakistan Cricket Board ;
appointed a Chairman & an AD HOC Committee to run Cricket in Pakistan until there were fresh Elections .

The only thing that Governments cannot do is to run Cricket forever .
Some Cricket Boards , when they see that they are faltering Transform themselves .

The New Zealand Cricket Board is a typical example of this , unfortunately the Lot that WE are saddled with do not believe in changing their 1927 Structure .

When recently the Guyana Government took the Guyana Cricket Board to Court I do not recall that the WICBC
& the ICC presented themselves in Court to defend the Guyana Cricket Board .

This is why , in my opinion , the Regional Governments must take the WICBC & the ICC to Court , so that this matter can be sorted out .

Writing letters to the ICC & BCCI ,
I don't believe will have as much impact as taking them to Court ; which is where persons take an oath to tell the Truth ; and in some cases
have evidence that verifies that they are being untruthful .

The Truth is that most if not all of the Persons appointed are in the high
echelons of their Businesses .

It is therefore very likely that this
matter may drag on for years due to
work related problems .

This is why the Panel should be given a Deadline to report their Findings .
The Lucky Report ; the Patterson
Report & the Wilkin Report ; have already done the Heavy Lifting .

Therefore the findings of this Panel
should not take a lot of time . It
will not go down well , if this Panel
seems to be dithering ; regarding presenting their Report in a Timely
manner .
