West Indies now hold the world Under-19 and the men's and women's T20 titles, but will the next generation of players gravitate towards Test cricket at all?
At a time of rebirth, it seems incongruous to say the West Indies' triumph rings the death knell for their long-form cricket aspirations. Yet one cannot but wonder if that magnificent finale by Carlos Brathwaite spells the end of Test cricket, maybe even ODI success, for this mighty cricketing nation.

Inasmuch as West Indies played some of their most abject cricket towards the end of 2015 in Australia, in three short months, there has been the most remarkable turnaround imaginable. An Under-19 championship, and now the men's and women's T20 crowns.

Of course, the Test team and the T20 team share very little except the logo on the shirts. And yet, in a delicious irony, two of three Test players in the starting XI for the World T20 final, Marlon Samuels and Brathwaite himself, were the unlikely heroes at the death. There were times in the summer when the chances of Samuels ever playing any form of cricket for West Indies were possibly questionable. Eighty-five not out in a winning team? Never!

Yes, an increasingly fast death. WI youths are sharpening their skills on T20 and will focus more on it because that is were the money is and how they are mistreated by the corrupt WICB.

Test cricket in Caribbean is in a comatose state and cannot be resuscitated. However, the deciding authority to pull the plug on the life support machine are the sponsors and that will happen when their net income is in the negative.

for test cricket to survive in our parts, ICC needs to implement some revenue sharing.

Lol - what does WI has do with that? The game is evolving on all continents like it or not.

Some may ask what does one have to do with the other , not all cricketers that come thought the system can play 20/20 , ODI or Tests. If you asked me the ODI team is the middle ground between T20 and Test. While its easy to say that we a focused on 20/20 and it is the most lucrative format of the game currently . It would be increasingly short sighted for players not to hone their skills in the longer format .

The cases to come to mind David Warner played for New South Wales in all competitions but it was his play in the Champions league that propelled him to national duty on all teams , I believe he had no first class experience .

Carlos exploits came as a player for the CCC after not being selected for Barbados . A first class and Test background before T20 glory .
