HEADLINE: Minister Warns Of Possible Fallout If WICB Is Disbanded

CaribbeanCricket.com Apr 8, 2016, 2:59:24 AM

Antigua & Barbuda’s Minister of Sports EP Chet Greene believes that disbanding the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will not solve the issues plaguing the game in the region.

His sentiments echo that of the country’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne who, in a statement following the team’s triumph over England in the ICC World Twenty20 finals on Sunday, credited the WICB with being on the right path.

Greene said the hardcore approach could have far reaching implications for all involved.

“We see no value in disbanding the board; it would only lead to chaos. If the Caribbean governments were to ban the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), it means that Caribbean cricket and all the glory we are now enjoying could suffer. The cricketers who ply their trade in India, with a world ban on West Indies cricket will not have that opportunity to ply their trade and so therefore my call and the prime minister’s call has always been for sober, rational, sensible discussions,” he said.

ROTFL
Dead on
He just needs assurances that the new Committe (not board) will still be based out of Antigua
That's all he is asking
You have to give it to the man, he put his cards out front, on the table, face up.
He's not concerned about WI Cricket, only that the HQ stays in Antigua

Shouldn't, the least, have DC step aside n let someone else take charge!?

lalaboy Apr 8, 2016, 3:45:41 AM

In reply to BeatDball

The issue is not only DC
The bunch of Directors behind are also a huge part of the problem.
What is happening is the same Directors propping up this behaviour for years, that's where the issue really lies i.e The Directors or Board
DC just a little bit for arrogant and ignorant than the others but the problem lies with the Directors
They all need to go, not just one

Someone there might have the approach...a take charge bloke with the leadership qualities. Sometime ago, when Tony cozier used a certain vocabulary to describe Cameron`s disposition during the $42M debacle, I then said to myself dc doesn't have what it takes to lead!

Barbados is the de facto head quarters of WICB, check how many staff members live there , how many meetings are held there!

Maybe, but if you've been sitting in the back seat for so long with the right approach and attitude and have not been able to convince the greater part of the other Directors to your approach, you should also be a victim here.
This is a clear instance of "NO CONTINUITY NEEDED"
FRESH START!

I don't know how many WICB employees live in Antigua and how many live in Barbados, but I do know that there are bajan WICB employees who live in Antigua.

Owen made his contribution yesterday,we will benefit from each contribution even if motive laden.

Yep a good amount of the actual people that works for WICB, are Bajans and do live in Barbados or at least go back home every now and again.
It's liek the company just registered in Antigua and have a building there and pays tax there

On a more important note though, the Directors behind Cameron are just as responsible for the mishandling of the WICB as Cameron is.
They are the one who elected him. So there must be a holistic change so is all the Director's they have to get rid of and as someone said (which si a famous phrase here in St. Kitts- Nevis) Fresh Start.

This fella is spot on...

“I am not saying the governments should take over or disband the West Indies Cricket Board, but what is required is for the model to be re-looked, where the stakeholder group called government has a little more say in the organisation and operation of cricket,” he added.

Yep he makes some sense but the first thing simpletons will see is the motive floating in front of their eyes...

They all need to go how?

You going rig cricket association votes or get different ppl to run.
You all don't realize those are the ppl who by and large want to be involved with Cricket at grassroots.

Everyone else just talking shit in theory.

Brother Fuzzy, you should know better asking questions on this message board. You should limit your question to WICB staff as opposed to team operations and committee members smile Otherwise you may get responses with a bunch of irrelevant names.

Disbanding the WICB gets away from the discussion of how little governments contribute to local cricket and sports in general. You think Keith Mitchel and Caricom really want to have that discussion and what it would take for them to have a say in local cricket. You think Caricom really interested in that discussion? That's why disbanding the WICB sounds so good to them, not because it solves anything but it perpetuates their non involvement at the grass root level.

POINT Apr 8, 2016, 7:03:03 PM

It would asinine and Foolhardy to once
again give money to an Entity that snubbed you after You spent 500 million dollars of Taxpayers money to facilitate that Entity hosting the 2007
Cricket World Cup .

When you suggested that the Entity implement changes recommended by the Patterson Report ???

I do not think that the Regional Governments are that Dumb ; because to add insult to Injury , after snubbing the Regional Governments , the WICBC then commissioned the Wilkin Report to demonstrate to the Regional Governments how much Power they have , and how powerless the Regional Governments are .

I believe that the time has come to cut them down to size especially since they do not want to change their 89 years old Structure ; which
obviously aint working well.
