Esteemed commentator and the voice of West Indies cricket, Tony Cozier, has passed away, aged 75. Cozier had been admitted to Bayview Hospital in Beckles Road in Barbados and was said to be under doctors' care and in a critical condition.
Winston Anthony Cozier was born in July 1940 in Barbados and became one of cricket's great voices. Cozier is said to have covered almost every cricket series involving the West Indies series since 1962. He has donned many hats during his lifetime, and is one of the most respected cricket writers, broadcasters and historians from the Caribbean.
Born to Jimmy Cozier, a journalist based out of Barbados who founded the Barbados Daily News and was the managing editor of the St Lucia Voice, Tony Cozier went on to become one of West Indies cricket's more prominent voices, writing several books and providing commentary for many TV and radio networks channels.

Rest in Peace. My childhood is filled with memories of Cozier's radio commentary where we would swear anytime he came into the booth a west indian wicket would fall and reading his stories in the newspaper and in the West Indies Cricket Annual.

RIP Tony Cozier.
I will never forget your voice - listening to a transistor radio in the wee hours of the morning from down under. Waking up when a wicket falls, snoozing and waking and listening to your description of cricket.
You brought me (and many many WI fans) great joy - in my formative years.

RIP Tony Cozier @75. Grew up listening to you in the golden days of West Indies Cricket. Your love for the game translated through your commentary. You were.... ...are a part of the cricketing fabric that unites the different islands of the West Indies... ...and Guyana too. Thanks Tony.

The voice never changed...even as he aged.
Only a few days ago I was recalling to my brother...the way Cozier described Viv Richards batting in England in 1976....Tony at his best with sheer excitement in his voice as he described the greatman plundering England.

Remember Viv scoring 60-something in zero time to steal a Test Match at Sabina Park. Tony's excitement made it feel as if TriniD was there at de park.

Damn. Really sorry to hear. Ive known Tony since I was 14 when he picked me to play for Wanderers 2nd Div based solely on my catching from the slip machine they had. Good man that. I really enjoyed his commentary when WI played away and we were able to hear a familiar voice on the radio relaying the exploits of our boyhood idols. He will be missed

Rip, tc. 75 is a good score, but 85 - 100 is what most batsmen want.

My Sincere condolences to the Cozier
Family , at the passing of Mr. Tony Cozier .
It is no secret that in his Forum I have been critical of him . However in the last days of his life , he became
a Staunch Critic of the WICBC .
It was by reading his latest writings
that I learned somethings that I was not aware of . One of them was the fact that the current Structure of the WICBC is 89 years old .
May He Rest in Peace , and his family
seek solace in the Happy Memories they shared with Him .

Bro, Point was never one of the fans, that followed cricket, as an adult.
He discovered the internet in early 2000, and began his ignorants of the WICB and the sports journalist.
I've asked him on numerous occasions if he has copies of any journals, written by Tony, he is yet to reply.
I for one never consider Point to be knowledgeable of Windies cricket, after the death of Sir Frank.

Tony RIP!
When I first heard I thought it was No Ball from a viscous pelter, alas 75 is an excellent score and the game was won by 9 wickets!
BTW Geoff Greenidge represented Pickwick not Wanderers, wrong opener that would be Robin Bynoe!

An appropriate post from you. As a strong critic of some commentators who held up the WICB, I am sure you recognise that Tony's love for the game transcended all. He was a stalwart as far as West Indies Cricket is concerned. The passing of Tony, I am sure saddens you as it does all of us.
My sympathy goes out to his loved ones.

In reply to jelfew,
Yes his passing is sad especially since
HE was very critical of the Worst
International Cricket Board in the Commonwealth , aka the WICBC .
WE will soon see if any of the well
known Sports People in the Media will
have the Testicular Fortitude to be
very Critical of the WICBC ; regarding its governance & Stewardship of Cricket in the Region .
